Cars were a luxury that most people surely took for granted. Not everyone was lucky enough to have a car to drive. Drivers also believed no matter what that they would always make it home safe without any issues because "I'm a good driver, I wouldn't get into an accident."
It wasn't difficult for that notion to be completely shattered in a moments notice. Everything can change in a mere blink.
Jake was hanging upside-down in his now totaled car, sirens blaring and people screaming. He tried to focus on his surroundings, but his head throbbed painfully and the seatbelt dug into his hips and shoulder from where he was suspended. His arms were covered in blood as well.
He couldn't tell if he was alive or dead at that point. Everything was so loud.
"The ambulance is coming! Hold on!" A voice screamed, but his head was too fuzzy.
Jake could swear that if he closed his eyes, he could see his mom's face.
Jake blinked heavily, fighting unconsciousness, but it felt like a losing battle. He could see blood on the roof of the car.
Jake was so tired.
He just wanted to rest, even for a few moments.
It couldn't hurt.
Okay.
You're probably thinking: "what the fuck just happened?!?!?"
Yeah, that's what Jake was thinking in the moment too, you're not special.
Let's back up and start from the beginning to catch you up though.
Rain beat down on the streets of Los Angeles, California. A rare sight in the dry area, but more than welcome for the local population. The sun was out, creating a beautiful glimmer and sparkle on the asphalt, a rainbow surely about to make an appearance.
It was so beautiful out, most people would prefer to stay home and watch the beautiful rain from the comfort of their homes, but alas, most people had jobs they had to get to.
Jake Pitts was just minding his own business getting ready for work. It was a normal day for him. He had just gotten out of the shower, and changed. He waited for his coffee to brew as his roommate fixed a bowl of cereal for himself.
He was running a little behind, but he would still get to work on time as long as he didn't stop for coffee.
"Morning." His roommate greeted; his voice thick with sleep. He was not by any means a morning person.
"Morning, Jinxxy." Jake smiled, grabbing a muffin off of the counter. He took a bite of it as he slid his laptop into his backpack.
Jinxx was a touring and studio musician. He and Jake had lived together for two years but had been friends for longer. Jake had a hard time remembering the part of his life that Jinxx wasn't apart of.
Jinxx was the first friend Jake had made when he moved to Los Angeles. He was an eccentric, kind, quiet man with a wicked sense of humor. He was insanely talented as well. He played at least a dozen instruments, so he was highly sought after by producers for studio work.
"Who are you working with today?" Jinxx asked, eating a spoonful of frosted flakes.
"5 Seconds of Summer." Jake replied. He was a sound engineer and worked for John Feldmann. John was a powerhouse producer that worked with some of the biggest artists in the industry. Jake was a guitarist himself, but there was no money in touring unless you knew the right people, so Jake did the smart thing, and got an education. A degree in sound engineering guaranteed Jake a job in music.
