A wedding is anything but ordinary. It is a special day where two hearts become one.
Head of cardio, Dr. Matthew Carter and head of neuron, Dr. Jessica Livingston was to be wed at an antique yet fashionable church, and they were to break a big surprise as well. Impeccable as it seems but they have been secretly friends for two years, unexpectedly became best friends for four years, destined to be lovers for six years and soul mates ever since. The church was the reflection of their flawless relationship; roses were all over the place, candles and romantic music were the talk of the town, until the groom set foot on the aisle ready to welcome the bride, all eyes were on him. As everything was in place the bridal car arrived shortly, heads then turned to the door and everything was beyond perfection. Today was suppose to be their wedding day and the happiest day of their lives, but as all doctors would know; everyday is a life-saving day.
An airplane crash occurred in the middle of the city because of some technical difficulties. The reporters have mentioned that the rear of the plain had a malfunction and nobody had noticed it until it was too late to do something. Everyone in the plane was asked to maintain calm while they were having the evacuation. But what would you expect if you’re given the same situation; you’re a thousand feet above land, you may have a parachute but there’s a tendency that you’ll land in water and drown or hit the city buildings, either way there’s only a slight possibility of surviving.
The two doctors were paged just seconds before the bride stepped out of the bridal car. And to think that they were both legends in the field of medicine, the church was also filled with good doctors, great doctors and the doctors of the future century; all of their pagers were going nuts. Every doctor urgently walked across the aisle, went into their respective cars and drove off. The groom however smoothly walked himself towards the bridal car, stepped inside and kissed the bride. “We can always have the wedding at the hospital.” Dr. Matthew suggested. They both laughed with the sarcastic joke. It was certainly ironic, not because an accident occurred on their wedding day but to how many lives they would save on their wedding day.
Jessica had countless patients needing surgery right away and so did Matthew. Yet even on their supposed to be special day, they maintained their focus on saving their patients and did everything that they could do. At the end of the day, 163 people died because of severe burns, head trauma, severe bleeding and shock. This was likely ordinary for doctors to hear, but what was important was they saved another hundred lives.
It was nearly midnight and everything was entailed to be just fine. Although, life is just like a box of chocolates, you’ll never know what you’ll get.
An ambulance rushed in with a little boy, who nurses first thought was bleeding out because of a deep wound, good thing that a paramedic placed her right hand inside the wound to stop it from bleeding; this was her first aid attempt since the wound was too deep. Dr. Matthew was about to extract the hand of the paramedic, when an intern rushed over to the operating room and called the attention of Dr. Matthew, according to the story of the little boy’s nanny who was helping him to make a science project, he whispered, “There’s a bomb.”
“What can you feel inside?” Dr. Matthew asked the paramedic. “What do you mean?” she replied nervously. “Are you touching something hard? Smooth?” Dr. Matthew asked again. “Yes, what are you saying? What am I holding?” she asked vaguely. “Relax, we’re still not sure of anything yet but for one thing, you’re keeping this boy alive so keep up what you’re doing, because as of this moment he is still alive because of you.” Dr. Matthew answered with confidence.
