Chapter 7 ~ The Divorce

TRIS' POV

So today the entire family of 5 is going to court since Mom and John are getting a divorce.

ALEX'S POV

I sit next Tris and Mom. Caleb sits by John on the other side of the court.

Right now Mom and John are getting a divorce and they're finishing off the paperwork.

Everyone else is here from Mom's side.

Uncle Kimbo, Aunty Kamai, Uncle Kimo, Aunty Hina, everybody.

Couple of days ago, Mom told us she was pregnant.

That's what set John off.

He would beat us 100 times harder than he would before.

And Mom was gone almost all of the time, so we got the beatings regularly.

It was really bad.

We got one last night which lasted from 8 to 11 at night.

Both Tris and I passed out in her room and when we woke up, we were in our own blood.

Luckily, her floors are wood so it was easy to clean.

We showered and went to sleep at 12.

We got up at 7, which court started at 9.

I sit in light grey joggers, a farmer's market black and teal akua shirt, and black nike roshes.

TRIS' POV

My back is super sore.

We got a major beating last night.

So, today I wear a black and white FM (farmer's market) Hawaii Ragian shirt, black skinny jeans, and white converse.

Mom and John finish signing the divorce papers and turn them into the Judge.

"I now pronounce you, Natalie Prior, and John Buckets, divorced!" the Judge yells for everyone to here.

I smile.

Finally, the day I have been waiting for.

The Judge pounds the gavel on the sound block to dismiss court.

Thank the Lord, I can finally have a night of not getting beaten.

We all get up and leave.

We decided before that after court, we would go to Uncle Kimbo's house and celebrate.

My mom, Alex, and I all get into the car and drive into town to Uncle Kimbo's house.

We get to Uncle Kimbo's house and the rest of the family is here, seeing as they left before us.

I smile when I see all of my little cousins I haven't seen in a long time.

I use to baby sit Makana and Leilani when they were little kids. Makana was 2 and Leilani was 5 when I baby sat them.

It's been a long time since I last saw them.

I get out of the car and Makana and Leilani run to me.

"Aunt Tris!" they squeal.

"Hi guys! You are so big!" I hug them. They hug back.

"Guess what, guess what!" Makana sings.

"What?" I ask.

"I'm going to be a big sister!" she giggles and smiles. I do too.

"Really!? Are you happy?" I question.

"Yes, I'm going to have a little brother!" she squeals. I laugh.

I look at Aunty Kona and see she has a belly. I can't believe I didn't notice.

"Wow! Let's go say hi to everybody," I say.

Makana grabs my hand and we walk from the car to the huge tarp tent we always set up.

I make my rounds and help Makana and Leilani.

I sit down next to Aunty Kona.

"Hey, Aunty Kona. How's you?" I ask.

"I'm doing great, actually," she smiles.

I hold Makana on my lap.

"When are you due?" I question.

"Um, in 2 months," she says keeping her amazing smile.

"Wow! So quick!" I exclaim.

"Yeah, it's been quite the ride," she sighs.

"Well, that's good. What do you want to name him?" I ask.

"I want another M Hawaiian name, but Uncle Kimo wants a K Hawaiian name this time," she says. I nod.

"What about Kaʻeo?" I wiggle my eyebrows.

"I like that name, I'll think about it," she smiles.

"Okay, well thanks for the small catch up session, but I have to catch up with everone else too! I'll see you later aunty!" I say getting up. Makana holds my hand and we walk around s'more.

+++ TIME LAPSE TO AFTER SHOWER +++

I lay down on my bed after taking a shower.

I sigh.

We got home at 2:30!

I just finished showering and it's 3!

Agh. I go to sleep because I'm tired.

Tomorrow is Sunday.

I fall asleep thinking of what I'll do tomorrow.
