Peter was still in shock his mind kept going back to the times he had spent with Mrs. Burrows, she was more like a mother to him than his cook, he loved her dearly.
The day was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and the breeze that was blowing, gently sent the leaves of the trees, to do a merry dance, swinging back and forth, with the tiny birds that lived there flying in and out of the leaves, they whistled their happy tunes as they went, they were not frightened of the man who was lying in the soft grass .
Peter was slowly coming back to where he should be, "Something has to be done about this, I cannot think of what happened to a beautiful person like his friend." I need to go to the village and listen to what is going around, there was always someone who will spill what they know, he stood up and the little birds stopped their swooping in and out of the trees and looked at the person who was a stranger to them.
Peter headed off into the village to see what he could find out about his friends murder, because that is what it really is, straight out murder.
First of all he entered the police quarters, and spoke softly to whoever it was at the desk, as having been gone for awhile, lots of new faces were around the place.
"Good morning sir, my name is Peter Prentiss, I have just returned from the war, and was confronted with the news that a women who was in our service up at the Red Hill Estate, was murdered, and I was wondering if you could give me some answers to help me find out what happened to my friend."
The young constable, stood up and looked at the man in front of him, it was then he noticed the scar that was around Peter's neck, he had been able to hide it from his family and did not realise that it was showing here, he gently pulled the scarf back into place so as to hide it.
The young constable held out his hand and introduced himself.
"My name is George, It is a pleasure to meet you sir, I have heard your name a few times by your parents and we are sorry for your loss, we are doing all we can to try and find out who would have committed this horrible crime.""Do you have any information at all, " he asked.
"We have a few new details that we are following up on." said George , "But we cannot let out any details at the moment as you can imagine, no one seems to know anything."
"We have been alerted to an unsavoury character seen around different places but he eludes us every time we seem to get near, I just don't, know where to go from here, I don't have much time to keep following him."
"I thank you sir for your help this morning, I will come back and see you soon."
He tipped his hat to the policeman, shaking his hand as he turned to walk out, his mind still on his dear friend who had been so brutally murdered.
