Borrowing

"Vi, are you sure about this?" Claggor asked with worry in his voice, "look if we get caught, we're-"

"We are not going to get caught. We will be in and out before anybody notices." Vi reassures him.

"Yeah Claggor!" I chime in, "we will be sneaky.. like a ninja!"

Claggor sighs as we continue to carefully walk along the side of the building we were currently on. We were on a mission to "borrow" (as I like to call it) some valuable things from an apartment over at Topside.

It was a little tip we had received from Ekko, or little man as we call him. We decided to check it out because we thought we could use the extra cash we would receive from it. Although it was risky, we all knew it would all be worth it in the end.

We finally reached our destination and took turns jumping over to the building we were headed to. I turned to see everyone else was in the building. All except for Powder, who seemed to be cowering away from jumping as usual.

"Called it." Mylo throws up hands in the air and walks away.

"This one is on you Vi." Claggor sighs.

"I can go get her if she wants?" I offer.

"No. Powder, look at me. What did I tell you?" Vi asks Powder. I looked towards the blue haired girl who was still staring at the ground. "That.. I'm ready."

It took her a while to get over, but thanks to Vi's words of encouragement, she finally managed to successfully jump over. I patted her head and cheered her on.

"Whoo! Go Powder! Boo Mylo!"

"Hey! What'd I do?!"

"Exist."

We got on the balcony of the building and went to open the door which was locked for some odd reason. Mylo went to do his thing by pick-locking the door open while me and Claggor looked down the balcony and saw the many enforcers that were down there.

Me and Claggor shared our concerns to the others for the amount of enforcers below us but we all decided to just ignore it and get the job done. We wouldn't get caught if we managed to expose ourselves anyways, so all we had to do was be careful.

Mylo was taking a while to get the door open which made Vi get impatient and kick the door right open. We all walked in and I stuck my tongue out at him while he frowned. "Animals."

Walking inside of the apartment, my breath was taken away. This place was way too fancy for a workplace. I had never been in a place like this and it was definitely a place that we weren't supposed to be in, the others were thinking the same as well.

But again, we had to focus on the task at hand. We began grabbing whatever looked valuable and throwing it into our sack. I figured that the place belonged to an inventor of some kind based on all of the books, notes, and gadgets all over the place.

I looked at the walls, examining the different drawings and notes all over them. Then I noticed something pink come into the corner of my eye, turning my head I saw Vi standing right beside me. We both made eye contact and softly smiled at each other, I turned my head away immediately right after.

"Must be an inventor." She says, swiping a random item from the table right in front of us and playing with it.

I smile, keeping my eyes on the table in front of us, "Yeah, I was just thinking the same."

"Yknow, I was thinking what it would be like if I had stuff like this. Must be pretty nice to live like this."

I lift my head up and direct my eyes towards Vi, "Yeah?"

"Yeah, living in a mansion and swimming in a pool of gold. Honestly it sounds like a dream."

"Am I in this dream of yours?" I accidentally mumbled out and not really knowing what I was really saying. But as soon as I realized what had just come out of my mouth, I immediately blushed and covered my mouth with my hand while looking at Vi with wide eyes.

But she just laughs, "yeah, you're there too don't worry. Along with the others as well."

I saw Mylo in the corner of my eye looking at me with a teasing smirk on his face. He turned around and hugged himself, pretending to make out with someone to mock me and Vi. I picked up a random book that fell on the floor and threw it at his head which made him help and rub the spot on his head where I hit him.

Everyone that I knew all knew that I had a crush on Vi. And I would always get teased relentlessly for it, especially by Mylo who did not back down when it came to joking about me and Vi. But I ignored it, just like how I tried to ignore my feelings for Vi. I guess the only thing that was stopping me from confessing my feelings to her was rejection.

I went up to the bookshelf, dragging my finger along the wood that held a row of books while I looked at each book and their titles. Whenever we were out on our missions, I would always try to take a couple of books since I had practically read all of the books back at home. There were a lot of nerdy books which weren't for me since I was only interested in fiction, but I thought of Ekko who would definitely want to read these.

I took a couple of books from the shelf, but as I took one book out I noticed something shining inside. I reached my hand inside and grabbed onto a piece of chain. I held it in my palm and realized it was a necklace.

It was an extremely old silver necklace that had a charm in the shape of half a butterfly wing that had engravings of a typical butterfly pattern. It was beautiful, and so fancy. Only one like me could only dream of owning something like this.

I don't know why but I felt like I just couldn't put this in the sack. Sure it was really valuable and was probably worth more money than I had ever seen before in my life, but I just wanted to keep it for myself.

Then I remembered what Vi had said, how she wondered what it would be like to be rich. I shoved the necklace in my pocket with an idea of what I would use this necklace for. I would give it to Vi as a nice gift.

We continued to put more things in the bag until we heard the sound of keys jiggling in the keyhole. Vi ordered Mylo to block the door with a chair while me, Claggor, and Powder went out on the balcony to wait for the others.

We were all now outside, waiting for Vi to pick up the bag and catch up with us. That was until there was a random explosion that knocked all of us onto the floor.

I stood up and we all stared at the balcony that was now completely destroyed and onto the bottom where all the reinforcers were.

Alarms were now blaring everywhere. Reinforcers were now lifting their heads up to the balcony and pointing at us and yelling at each other to come and catch up. Our cover was blown and we had to get the hell out of there.

"Guys.." I start backing up while grabbing everyone by their shoulders, "let's get the hell out of here!"
