Chapter 1

The day began like any other. Calm and peaceful.

The queen got up from her god-like bed and walked over to the window gazing out across the sea of green leaves. She saw no sign of a threat so she walked over to her wardrobe filled with flowy blue dresses. She pressed the button behind a particularly dark navy dress and the door opened revealing a room filled with her weapons, armour and her real clothes. A rack of caps sat in one corner, a tall shelved space filled with hoodies next to it a rod connected it to another tall shelved column filled with baggy t-shirts. On the rod hung jackets ranging from leather biker jackets to soft suede to black denim. Two cupboard doors opened to reveal jeans, joggers and leggings of all colours and patterns.

She pulled out a soft royal blue hoodie, black jeans and a pair of white socks and got changed into them. The queen went over to the mirror in the middle of her weapons and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, she strode over to the corner and picked a cap of the rack. She put her hair through the whole in the back and sprinted out of her room and through the corridors of her magnificent castle. Slipping on a pair of comfortable trainers she ran out the back door and to the stables.

Her face lit up as she saw her beautiful black mare,

"Dabria!" She squealed as she walked up to her stall, their foreheads met as the queen stroked Dabria's neck. Their heads fell apart when the queen went to get her horse's saddle and reins.

After she had gotten Dabria ready to go, she slipped a bow and quiver over her shoulder and opened the stall. They both ran side by side over the hills and into the woods. This was the day they had been training for.

As they neared the cliff the queen stopped in her tracks, Debria stopped just in front of her and looked back at her rider.

"You ready, girl?" Dabria shook her head up, flipping her mane.

The queen ran, Dabria following close behind, catching up in an instant.

They jumped.

The queen mounted her steed halfway across the ravine. Dabria's eyes glowed as they landed their stunt, the queen couldn't have looked happier. The two galloped through the woods, the queen pulling the bow over her head and grabbed an arrow from the quiver. She shot every target they ran past, after each bullseye more adrenaline pumped through her veins.

Meanwhile back at the castle

Wren awoke to a quiet castle.

Too quiet.

Usually there was the sound of the knight roaming the corridors or the dogs barking or even sometimes the whistle of a kettle in the kitchen but this morning it was dead quiet. They went out into the corridor to look for their best friend, the queen.

As they pushed open the door they weren't surprised when they found an empty bed. Just to be safe they looked out the window to the stables and sure enough Dabria was gone, Wren wandered down the halls of the castle, looking for anyone else. Usually they would be happy to be alone but something just didn't feel right. They knew not to shout in case there was an intruder so instead they stayed quiet. After having no luck finding anyone they went back to the queen's room and waited for her to return.

In the woods

The queen picked up her wrist and looked at her watch,

"Shit" she shot up and awoke Dabria.

On their way back to the castle, something seemed off. She told her horse to go a little faster due to this feeling.

The queen snuck back into the castle, after putting Dabria back in her stall, it seemed deadly quiet. She tried not to stir the silence as she made her way back up to her room.

"Jeez! What the hell, Wren?!" Venus lifted their sleepy head off of the queen's soft duvet covers.

"Hi" they wiped the sleepiness out of their eyes "where were you off adventuring too this morning?" Venus asked, propping themselves up on their elbows.

"Uh- what d-do you mean?" The queen stuttered as she was told by the knight never to go out alone.

"You do realise you wake me up most mornings when you sneak out with Dabria? And you're a terrible liar." Wren stated.

"Yeah well- yeah, no your right.." the queen admitted, she strode over to her bed and sat beside her best friend, "did i wake you this morning?"

"Surprisingly no, but the castle was eerily quiet" they rolled over to face the queen.

"You mean nobody's about?"

"Yeah, i looked everywhere but-" they didn't get to finish as the queen swiftly ran out the door and down the grand staircase. Wren groaned and stumbled out of bed, slowly following the queen. "SquEEk?" They wined down the corridors, "You're going too fast! And i already checked on the goats, they're fine, just hadn't been woken up yet."

"You sure?" SquEEk popped her head around the corner "I'm just gonna go check on them anyways." She quickly disappeared down the corridor.

"Why should i even bother anymore" Wren mumbled under their breath.

After they searched the castle again

"Where is everyone?" SquEEk asked for about the millionth time.

"For the hundredth time, i don't know!"

"Rhetorical question" she hissed.

"Maybe we should check the village?" Wren suggested.

"Good idea"

"Well i said it, so obvious-" Wren started but SquEEk stopped them with a glare.

SquEEk grabbed her famous cloak from beside the door, she slipped it over her shoulders, adjusting the mask attached to the hood as she did. She looked to Wren to make sure that only her eyes could be seen. Wren nodded, and with that they both left swiftly through the grand 10ft door.

"Where'd you wanna go first?" Wren stepped out into the sun, the queen following close behind.

"It was your idea to check the village, so you choose."

"I honestly don't think I've ever met a ruler afraid of her own kingdom." Wren turned, a smirk on their face. The look from the queen's eyes alone was enough to make them stop talking. "Uhm.." they choked out "lets go to the tradecentre, there's usually a lot of people there." Wren turned back around, leading the queen to the tradecentre.

"Usually we would've seen someone by now?"

"Agreed, somethings up." The queen replied. Not feeling so nervous now, she lifted her head up higher and looked beyond her best friend's shoulder. Only to see an empty street, her heart dropped. They were into the middle of the village now, and no one was to be seen. Shops with open signs out front still lined the streets. Stalls still fully stocked. Horses still at the public stables.

"We need to find the knight. Now." A tone of urgency left the queen's mouth. Wren nodded as they both fled, back to the castle.

"Knight!" Wren bellowed through the castle, their voice echoing off the high ceilings.

"Sht!" SquEEk whisper shouted.

"What why?"

"Until we know what happened, we can't let ourselves be known to be here."

"But-" Wren never got to finish.

The door creaked open towards the two, a head poking round it.
