stroke of death

Chapter 1 Ugh... School.

I'm walking to school alone yet again. My brother had to get to his job early so I'm on my own. My hair is dyed black and has red strips in it. My brother had a fit when he saw it but I don't care. I walk into the schoolyard and my eyes scan for my best friend. When I don't see him I walk behind the schoolbuilding and find him sitting on the ground humming to himself thoughtfully. I take off my shoe and throw him with it. He jumps and glares at me. I laugh at his face. He picks it up and throws me with it but I catch it and slip it back on. "Too slow Light." I grin and sit down next to him. I pull out my packet of siggarrets and light one up. Light gives me a sideling look and asks. "Does you brother know your smoking?" I roll my eyes and give him a look. "Nope he does not. Not that I care."I light one up and take a drag. He rolls his eyes and scans the crowd. "So where is L? I would think he would be here by now." I roll my eyes. And take another drag. "He had to go into work early today. Again." He Smiles. I take another drag and tuck some hair behind my ear. He asks. "Is your brother chilled about your hair yet?" I laugh mirthlessly. "Like hell. He is still mad about it. We had yet another fight about it last night." Light stares over my shoulder for a while. I look over my shoulder and there he is. My big brother. He is standing in his usual crouched way and is wearing a stormy look. Its a scary look but I look back cheerily. "Hey big bro whats up?" He stands there with his face still stormy. "Are...you...smoking?!" I nod and to prove my piont I take a deep drag. He looks from me to Light and back the he says in a calm vioce. "Put out that siggarret and come with me too class. You are going to be late." I shrug and kill my siggarret and stand up. After dusting my self off I call over my shoulder at Light. "See ya around Light." Then I follow L to my class. When we get there he turns to me. "How long have you been hanging out with that boy? " I look at him calmly but inside my blood is boiling. "That boy as you refer to him has a name and his name is Light Yagami." He looks at me and says " I want you to stay away from him. He is nothing but trouble." I  look at him stonily and say "You seem to be under the impression that you can choose my friends for me." I turn around and walk into the class. I take my seat and sit down. Ignoring my brother when he walks in. But when Light walks in I smile and he takes a seat next to me. Then he asks."Let me guess he told you to stay away from me? " I roll my eyes and ask sarcastically " jeez how did you know? Are you a psychic? " He chuckles and replies "Nope just a really good guesser " I laugh softly and lean closer while stealing a look from my brother. If looks could kill! "Hey don't look now but looks like you have a enemy. " He looks at L and moves closer making my brothers face look darker. I laugh silently and whisper. "You are looking for trouble." He replies just as softly  "Hey wanna..." Just then the teacher enters the Room and tells us to be quite.  I  wait until the teachers back is turned then I ask "What is it you wanted to ask me? " He waves his hand at me and says " Later." I shrug and consentrate on the lesson. At break I rush to find him then I ask  "So what did you want to ask?" He leads me to our spot and asks "I wanted to know if you wanted to get some ice cream later? " I grin "sure. L needs to go in so I'm sure it will be okay." He grins and says "Cool. I'll meet you at the main gate this afternoon." We spend the rest of the break chatting.  And when the bell rings we get up and walk to our classes.  At the corridor where we are supposed to split he calls over his shoulder. " See ya later Lillia. " I smile and say "Not if I see you first! " He laughs and keeps walking. At my class I stop and sigh. Homey economy class. I hate it. But my brother Decided it is a safer class for me. I sigh and enter the class. For the next hour or so my brain wrestles with the class . When the bell rings I start packing my bag. I could not pack my school bags fast enough. As soon as I'm done struggling with my damn school bag I run for the gates. Light is already there. I smile and say " Yo Light. " He smiles and replies. "Hey Lillia. Ready to go? " I nod and we start walking. For a while we just talk about Nonsense and when we reach the ice cream shop we go in and choose a window seat. We order our ice creams Light starts talking. "So. Your brother does not seem to like me."I shrug. "He does not like anyone." Light laughs. "Trust me I know what you are going through. My dad is exactly the same even though I am a guy and quite adapt to fighting. But he still has a need to lecture me on safety every few minuets. Just this morning I was almost late for school again because my dad got it in his head Kira may be on the bus and may get it in his head to attack me of all people! " We laugh. And our ice creams arrive. we dig in completely lost in the moments of pure sweet cold heaven. The Light asks me. " So I wanna ask you Something really serious." I look up at him my spoon in my mouth he studies me intently. " I wanted ask you what do you think of Kira?" I look at him intently. "Well. Let's just say I do not like nor dislike him." Light asks "Explain please. " I thoughtfully say. "Well. I only heard what others heard. But I think he kills because he has the same feelings every other human being on this planet." Light looks thoughtful.  "No one has ever talked about him like that. Or seen him in that light." I smile and say " Well I guess I see both the dark and the light. I mean, with a over protective brother like mine its not like I can make any friends. "Light chuckles softly and says "It can't be that bad!" I laugh as well and say "Oh yeah? Let me put it to you this way When I was six, he took me a ice skating rink and to make sure I don't hurt myself he wrapped me in bubble wrap. More over he pushed me around. And he was as slow as a snail on sand paper!" Light laughs with me. Then I turn serios. "Now it's my turn to ask You a serious question." He visibly tenses up. " Do you have a girlfriend yet? " He chuckles and visibly relaxes. "Nope for one the schoolwork is way too much. And two. I do not want a girl in my life just yet. It will only allow my dad to add another lecture to the pile." I laugh and take another bite of my ice cream. " Do you have a boyfriend?" The question catches me off guard and I choke a little on my ice cream. Light pats me on the back and I ask. "What gave you the Idea of me having a boyfriend? If L found out that I had a boyfriend, not that I do so wipe that smirk off your face, he would kill me. As far as he considers I'm still that six year old cuddling a teddy." Light lifts his glass and says "To overprotective people." I lift my glass and hold it up "to freedom!" He laughs and clinks his glass against mine. We finish Our ice creams and leave. Light walks me home. When we get to my apartment he keeps walking calling over his shoulder. "See ya later Lillia." I smile and call back. "Not if I See you first!" He laughs and keeps walking. I go into the building and try to sneak up the stairs. When I get to the halfway point I hear a vioce behind me. "Hey Lillia." I take a deep breath and say "Hello Yahico." He smiles and leans against the wall "your looking good today as usual." I sigh and smile wanly. Eversince my brother and I moved in here Yahico has had a interest in me. And Altough I made it clear I do not return the interest he still does not give up on me. "Interesting day?" He asks. He is wearing a jeans and a nerdy shirt that reads " I don't need to get a life I'm a gamer I have lots of lives." His eyes are wearing the same puppy dog expression that he only has around me. I try to get away "Look Yahico I have a lot of homework to do so see you around..." I turn and try to run upstairs but Yahico hurries up behind me and grabs my wrist. "Do you know how irristable you are, Woman?" I try to wriggle free But he pins me against the wall. He runs his tongue down my neck. "Yahico what if we're spotted together?" He chuckles and replies "No one will mind. They all know that you belong to me." I manage to wriggle out of his arms. And run halfway up the stairs. "Sorry Yahico I need to get started with my homework. So see you around." In my head I think to myself Boy you watch way too many vampire movies.

I run into the apartment and sigh in relief. If his dad wasn't the owner of this building I would have kicked him to the curb long ago. But since he has a special interest in me, my brother pays less rent. It's always like this. He tries to act sexy but to me he is creepy. But I suppose him crushing on me has it's advantages. I can come and go as I like with out them telling my brother and I can come in a hour late. But still it's tiring.I look around the apartment and deside to first tackel my homework. I sit in the lounge and pull out my calculations book with a sigh. For the next half an hour I bully my brain to consentrate on the complecated math equations. Then I pop some leftovers into the warming oven and eat dinner. Then I pop a DvD into the mashien and sit on the couch letting my mind go blank. And halfway through the movie I fall asleep. 

I wake up when I feel a gentle shaking. I look up and see my brother has arrived home. "Hey did you wait for me to get home?" I shake my head "No I was watching a movie. I guess I fell asleep. What time is it?" He smiles and says. "It's half past nine." I sit up and stretch out. "Any new leads on the Kira case?" He sighs and shakes his head. "No nothing. And we found five more dead tonight. Also Kira hits." I take a closer look at his face. He looks tired. He has darker rings under his eyes. And his face is pale and pinched. I ask eagerly. "How do you know it was Kira?" He smiles wanly "Well for one thing There is no markings of death on any of the victims bodies also. Almost all the victims are drug dealers, gangsters or murderers. It's enough to drive anyone mad." He puts the kettle on And stretches out. "Sit down L you look dead on your feet." He smiles and plops down I start making hot chocolate . When I give it to him I say goodnight and go to bed. At least I try. But after tossing and turning for fifteen minutes, I conclude that I can't sleep so I get up and get my book. The book focuses on Japanese mythology and is very thick. I have been reading it for about a week. The pages of the book is spattered with the blood of many mythological characters and millions of innocent victims of sacrifice. I am in love with this book. I walk to my window and climb out. Using the pipe that runs the length of the building I quikly clamber up and on to the roof. Once I'm comfortable I open my book on the chapter of the Shinigami "Shinigami are supporters of the death god. They are men with mortal bodies. And are mostly carriers of the deathnote. The organs of the deathnote remains a complete mystery. However there are stories of one ryuk Who has Dropped a deathnote on our world. Where it's activities are unknown. However we can be sure what the deathnote Is used for. The shinigami who has found the deathnote has the powers equal to if not greater than, a deathgod. The deathnote can be used to kill a person. If the shinigami knows the person's face and name. There is however ways to track down the death note if you know the signs. First of all a victim of the deathnote Has no visible scarring on their body. To many a person who is in apparently perfect health simply dropped dead. And so in conclusion.  The deathnote is completely untraceable. Even the book itself is unimpressive. It is simply a black cover with the words 'DEATHNOTE' on it..." L's vioce interrupts my reading. "Lillia! Where are you?" I call back "I'm up on the roof, L!" L pokes his head out of my Window. "Again?? Get down from there! One day your gonna fall and break your neck!" I ignore him and call thoughtfully. "L would you mind coming up here?"  L climbs up and asks in panic "What is it? Did you get hurt? "I point silently to the book. He frowns and reads the chapter on Shinigami . When he is done He looks up at me. "Okay. What has this got to do with anything?" I sigh realising I was going to have to spell it out for him. "Look L. Doesn't some of the affects of the Deathnote relate to your case?" He looks at me with a frown. Then he snaps and starts laughing.  And once he starts he can't stop. I merely take my book then I slide down the pipe and climb in my room. He is right behind me. "Look Lillia I'm sorry I laughed. It's just... the idea of a shinigami being the murderer. It's ridiculous even for you!" My eyes narrow down and I ask in a low vioce "And what is that suppose to mean?" He tries to cover."I didn't mean it like that. I..." I interrupt him. "Oh I know what you meant. You were implieing that my Idea of shinigami is so crazy. So Ludicrous That it rather should stay by me and people with the same Ideas as me. Well okay. But don't Think I will ever help you with anything again." I place my book on my desk and climb in bed with a huff. L sighs and rolls his eyes and walks to my bed. " Good night Lillia sweet dreams." He tucks the blankets in and kisses my head then he turns around and leaves the room.

A/N: HELLO ALL MY FABULOUSE DEATH NOTE FANS. JUST A SHORT NOTE. OK SO YES L IS LILLIA'S BIG BROTHER. AND YES LIGHT IS HER BEST FRIEND. ALSO I DECIDED TO MAKE HER A BIT OF A BAD GIRL ON THE OUTSIDE BUT AS YOU CAN SEE WITH THE SITUATION WITH YAHICO SHE ALSO HAS A SOFT SIDE WITH HER BROTHER. HENCE WHY SHE DOESNT TELL YAHICO TO HIT THE CURB. ALSO YES I AM PLANNING FOR A SHIP WITH LIGHT. BIT YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THAT TO HAPPEN. SO UNTIL NEXT TIME MY LOVELIES
