(homecoming queen? - Kelsea Ballerini)

-

It was a trip that we planned together. My friends and I planned a camping trip. It was early November, and it was starting to get a bit chilly out and it just felt right. It was fall, my favorite time of the year and where we were going was bound to be beautiful. We wanted to do something we all haven't done before and camping was that.

So, the six of us packed up and decided to go up to the mountains two cities over. Me, my twin sister Pandora, my boyfriend Calvin, and our three friends Easton, Sage, and Jordan. We decided to spend the weekend, Friday to Sunday, up in the mountains where there was a very small town, with the population of about 1,421. The grounds weren't privately owned so we were free to go spend time there as long as we clean up and out all fires in the correct way.

The locals wouldn't bother us, and it was the best secluded place to be, to connect.

"Pen-aye!" I heard my sister shout.

"Huh?" I jump up and hit my head on the roof of the car. I rub my tender head and look at my sister who was driving my jeep.

"Why, why are you screaming?" She glanced at me and giggled. I looked in the back seat to see our friend, and her girlfriend, Sage still sleeping.

"My bad, I've been calling you so long and I didn't think you were gonna try and go through the roof. Anyway, look we're about to enter the town and you said you wanted to get some pictures for your portfolio/scrapbook thing." She waved her hand around in a circle while she looked straight ahead

At the mention of the quant town, I became very alert.

Photography was my passion so to say. Ever since I was little, it has been something I loved doing. Not until I was older, did I realize how passionate I was about it. I always assumed it was a hobby, just something that I did for fun in my spare time, but I genuinely loved it and would go the rest of my life taking pictures.

"There you go again." She turned to me briefly to smile then looked back at the road.

"What?" I lifted my brow and did a small smirk.

"You get that mesmerized look and that sparkle in your eyes when you think about taking pictures." She glanced at me with an even bigger smile, and I returned it. There was silence for a bit then we looked at each other and busted out laughing.

"I love you." I said when the laughing died down.

"Love you too, hey can you call the guys and let them know I'm going to stop at the shell that's on our exit."

I nodded and grabbed my phone to call Easton because Cal was probably the one driving. He picked up immediately and I let him know about the plans. After he hung up, I turned around and woke Sage up so that she wasn't groggy when we stopped, and she would have time to relieve herself. One last use of a toilet before we actually settled down in the woods.

When we actually stopped, we all piled out of our vehicles and went to do our business. I put on my sweater and got out the car, the air is crisper and cooler when you're on a mountain. Calvin and Pandora stayed back to pump some gas while the rest of us went inside. We got to the one stall bathrooms, and each waited our turns. When it was mine, I moved forward, but at the same time as someone else and we ended up bumping into each other. Large hands gripped my shoulders and steadied me.

"I'm sorry, you go right ahead." His voice was deep and gruff, he had soft blue eyes that didn't match his voice or demeanor.

His eyes gave me boy next door, but he looked like everything but that. He had on a white waffle thermal shirt under a grey fleece jacket. The shirt fit so well, like his body was so defined, I could just touch it right now.
