Jay was precisely Jake’s best friend, a family friend, brother, whatever and it was Jake who introduced the two back in the university.
Sunghoon quickly dialed Jay’s number and called him. Jay immediately picked it up from the other end.
Without wasting a breath, “What the hell are you talking about?” Sunghoon barked at Jay.
“Chill down for a sec and let me explain. I am at the airport now, on my way to Sydney. So, I don’t really have time to tell you everything but you have my condolences.”
“Jay! How do you know that he is getting married? And most importantly who? How? When and why?” Sunghoon was on the verge of going crazy at this point.
He heard what Jay said on the other line, “Wait— you’re going from New York to Sydney?”“Oh gosh I can’t hear you properly! Ask one at a time, this is too much to take in.” Jay exclaimed, Sunghoon heard loud voices, supposedly airport announcements and a sudden bust of air rushed past his ear.
Sunghoon mumbled in between, “Speak up,” he was silenced from inside, everything around him felt like it was tearing apart.
“I just knew about it few hours ago, I got an invitation for Jake’s bachelorette party and that’s how I came to know about it. The wedding is in two days. I am shocked too. It was his dad who invited me so get the idea of why and I don’t know about the who part though,”
The bustling sound of passengers in the plane was covering up Jay’s voice but Sunghoon still clearly heard everything.
Hot torrents of grief stained Sunghoon’s face. Of course, it is because of Jake’s dad. He never liked them together. He was the reason Jake left Seoul in the first place even though Jake didn’t want to leave Sunghoon.
But Sunghoon being the kindest person to ever grace the surface of this earth, urged him to go back to his parents, so that Jake’s parents would be proud of him working there, Sunghoon insisted that he was willing to wait till he gains experience, till Jake makes something out of himself.
How much he regretted doing that now.
Sunghoon held the phone tight in his grasp as Jay continued, “I will be getting off at LA in six hours and then will catch up on the flight to Sydney from there…”
“Sir please switch off your phone.”
“… I’ll call you when I reach there okay? Bye. I sent someone to look out for you. Take care.” Jay ends the call by bidding him a goodbye.
Sunghoon couldn’t reply, his voice got stuck in the throat.
Deep emotions stimulated with no other aperture but through his long-lasting sobs. He could hold the heartbreak no longer and fell on the floor in an unkempt heap.
