"Jane. You need to get out of bed or you'll rot. It's been three days since you left your room-- That fucktard isn't worth wasting your time over." Kristy tried to keep her voice steady, not wanting to offend the sad girl, and Jacobs gave her a sympathetic look when she didn't reply; hidden beneath layers of blankets.
"What about a walk around the central park? It's not snowing and we can have hot chocolate and just enjoy the cool weather. We promise not to say anything about Christmas while we're there." Jacobs tried next, grinning when the bulge under the blankets moved, and Kristy beamed when Jane's puffy face poked out of her safety.
"You can't call me Grinch or trick me into going to another pub or force me to do Christmas Karaoke." Jane's raspy and small voice made Kristy coo and Jacobs laughed when she jumped onto their best friend; hugging her strongly.
"I love you, girls." Jacobs told them happily, jumping in to hug his girls, and Jane tried to act like she wasn't loving the warm hug while Kristy beamed as she pulled out her phone to click a picture.
Kristy sent the picture, along with a long text, to Jane's mom so she didn't worry about her sweet daughter before walking into her room to change into warmer clothes, grinning happily. Jacobs assisted Jane to get ready for the walk, ignoring her snail-walk and half-hearted whines to be left alone, before sending a quick text to his husband to meet them at their usual hanging spot. Before Jane could even comprehend, they were already inside a cab and on their way to the central park; her best friends' arms wrapped around her smaller frame protectively. As much as Jane disliked Christmas, she couldn't deny the beauty of New York City during snowfall and she watched her city with a strange feeling inside her chest; anxiousness.
"Jane! Hey, girl! What took you people so long? I've been waiting here for hours." Gushed Lee, Jacobs's husband, and without giving Jane a chance to back out, he wrapped his strong muscular arms around him.
"Wang Lee you better let go of me this instant or the next number I dial would be of China." Jane managed to threaten weakly, knowing Mrs. Wang would listen to her over her son any day, and Lee huffed before pulling away only to kiss his husband happily.
"I thought you said she was heartbroken and sad but she's still threatening me." Lee teased the smaller girl, making Jane roll her eyes, and Kristy quickly wrapped her arm around her friend while hiding her grin.
"Hey! Back off! Nobody will mess with my Gri-- baby tonight." Kristy warned weakly, giggling when she almost slipped that name, and Jane whined as she started walking inside; ignoring her friends who were calling out to her.
Kristy, Lee, and Jacobs laughed as they followed Jane happily, glad that she was finally out of the apartment, and the friends spent the hour or so talking, joking around, and having fun. Kristy took several pictures of the group, sending them to their Mom at once, and Jane was pleased when the three made sure to not say anything about Christmas. Once they all got too tired and cold to continue, Jacobs and Lee took off to find hot chocolate for the small group, being all lovey-dovey, and Kristy remained seated beside Jane for a while until her eyes caught someone who made her perk up. Jane pushed Kristy when she saw that, forcing her to go and interact with the tall girl, with short blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes, who was waving at her, and watched as her best friend walked up to her; her shy demeanor surprising.
As soon as the tall girl captured Kristy's attention, Jane took her chance and walked away from the scene; finally allowing herself to feel the paralyzing numbness that had been aching her insides. Her hatred for Christmas soared when she found herself surrounded by couples, being all cuddly and soft with each other, and her hazel eyes stung with tears as she remembered the time she had been one of them. So blinded she was by her love for someone who didn't even deserve it that she refused to acknowledge all the signs of his incompetence that we're right there. But now that they were broken up, everything started to come back to her, and Jane felt like the biggest fool on earth.
