"Princess..." I glanced at Emily, the woman who tends to me. She was wearing a weary expression, uncomfortable to watch me pathetically wait for someone to see me off.
Yet the clouds grew dim, the sky lost its vibrant blue hue and there was still no one to see me for the last time before getting married to a man I've never met in my entire life.
It seems like the problem about the murder of a marquis and marquess needs prior attention than to see off their youngest. I somehow scoffed at the thought. How funny. Never did they paid attention to me even when I lived with them.
My dead eyes stared at the distant palace, trying too see if anyone at least glances through the window to see the only princess of this empire.
But there was none. Not one of them walked nor tried to do so.
"Let's depart." I turned my back against the palace. I've waited enough. I entered the carriage prepared for me. If only Ashley was here, then I'll be able to witness someone seeing me off but it's impossible.
The fact that Emily is by my side states the truth that my nanny is dead. I couldn't help but to be clouded with eerie thoughts. What if... I face the same fate as my nanny? What if I married the wrong man?
... And abuse me to death as well?
The thought made me even more hopeless than I was already was. I wished for someone to come and stop the wedding but that wish was impossible for there's not one who cares about me.
Days went by and we passed by the border, my mind was still bothered and I anxiety filled my whole system as we go.
By unknown reasons, the carriage that I was in stopped. Emily creased her eyebrows, wondering as well why we stopped all of the sudden.
"Are we going to camp out?" I asked, uninterested yet slightly worried. I don't feel good about what's happening right now. I feel like a bad thing will happen today.
But it won't happen. I have knights with me, it's impossible that something wrong will happen.
Emily stood up to open the door. "Why did we sto-?"
My eyes shifted from the floor to a body that suddenly blocked the view. My eyes widened at the sight of blood that was coming out from the arrow that pierced her head. My lips parted, slowly taking in the gruesome fate my attendant faced right before my eyes.
I turned pale at the horrifying sight.
"AAAAAAAHHH!" I shouted in fear and horror. Emily! Emily is dead!
I head laughter outside the carriage that made me panic.
No! How come this happened?!
I shrieked when a hand took my wrist. It was a bulky man with scars on his face! I wasn't familiar with him so he isn't a knight!
"Well, well. Boys! We have something to enjoy tonight!" The man laughed as his eyes looked at me like I was the jackpot he got.
My eyes started to swell tears. I'm scared!
"Princess!"
I shouted again, horrified at the sight of the arm of the man grasping my wrist fell on the floor! I cried, horrified and weak while the knights fought the men who ambushed us. Were they bandits? I don't know what they are but I'm sure they can secure my death!
"Princess, you need to run away to the nearby village! We can't secure your safety, your highness!" The woman dressed with a knight's uniform reached out her hand to me.
I couldn't think of anything and took her hand. I went out with her but the moment I got off the carriage, her head flew away from my sight.
I shivered. She couldn't run away that fast... I'm... still holding her hand.
