On the night before everything happened, it was just an ordinary day for me. I woke up, got ready for my day and finished my shift at the nearby grocery store. There was nothing new to my boring yet normal life. That is, until I woke up the next morning.

I never thought I would regret repeating those words until this very moment.

There was screaming coming from down the hallways. Not only was there screaming but I heard banging against the walls. I had no idea what was happening and I panicked.

As I rushed out of bed and went up to the doorway, I couldn't have regretted my decisions more than I did on that day. There was so much blood. Not only was there a lot of blood but also my neighbor's body. Mutilated and barely recognizable.

I backed away from the door, stopping myself from vomiting. I couldn't help but question what the hell was going on. And when I looked out my window, the answers were as clear as day. Everything was wrecked and ruined. The streets were crawling with man-eating monsters.

Those windows were no longer visible from the outside when I quickly shut the blinds to every window I had. I had to make sure to not catch these things attention. Then someone banged on my door multiple times. It scared me at first, but then I heard their voice shout to me.

"Momo! Momo, are you safe? Please open the door!" My friend, Son Chaeyoung, called to me.

I quickly ran to my door, opening it and shutting it tight.

"Oh my god, Chae, you're okay!" I exclaimed, hugging her. I soon regretted that since she was covered in sweat and blood.

"Where's Dahyun?" I asked her, searching outside the door. With panic settling in, terrifying images filled my thoughts.

"Don't worry, she's safe. We found a safe point at the rooftop and other survivors were going around the building, looking for others," Chaeyoung sighed. "I'm so happy you're alive."

"I'm happy you're alive too, little cub," I said, ruffling her hair. "Let's pack some stuff before going."

She nodded to me, going straight to the kitchen. We grabbed multiple grocery bags and a backpack to put the necessities in. Knives, canned goods, water bottles, medical supplies, clothes, all items that'd keep us lasting.

"Look good?" I asked Chaeyoung, holding up three bags.

"Absolutely," she laughed.

We rushed out of my room, not even closing the door.

When I think back to that moment, I remember that I only felt fear. The moment we stepped out, we came face to face with one. It's face, all bloody and scarred. It's skin was all gray and... It's eyes were cloudy. There was no humanity left in this poor fool.

My thoughts were quickly interrupted when Chaeyoung kicked it, making it fall over. She stabbed its head with a knife, completely killing it.

"Run, Momo!" She shouted to me, making a run for the rooftop.

We came across even more monsters, but just enough to make it through. I looked back, watching some chase after us. My heart couldn't have raced just as much in any other moment of my life. But as we ran up the stairs, they stumbled onto each other, slowing the other monsters down.

"Almost there! Just a couple more steps!" Chaeyoung rushed.

With our adrenaline going, we ran even faster up the stairs, bursting through the door. We quickly shut it, pushing against it with the help of other survivors.

A man quickly grabbed a few metal poles, putting them through the handles. The banging of the door continued, but there was no way these things were getting through that.

All of us sighed in relief, slumping against the rooftop floor.

"Momo, Chaeyoung!"

Chaeyoung and I were pulled into a tight embrace from our friend, Kim Dahyun.

"I just knew you two were going to make it, I'm so relieved!"

One of the men chuckled, saying, "you're lucky your friend here pushed us to keep the door unlocked."

"We thank you for trusting in her," Chaeyoung bowed. "You really just saved our lives!"

"Is this... everyone?" I questioned, looking at how there was only eight of us. Four men and four women.

"We had more survivors, but... they didn't make it when we were looking for others," said a man with long hair.

"All of us need to stick together, though. Let's make sure to protect each other," a woman then added.

All eight of us prepared for the longest days of our lives to come, feeling a sense of relief to be together. We knew that we were going to be facing difficult times ahead for a long time. And, that gave us just the reason to befriend each other and to restore the faith that we'll survive.
