"Asher. What are you writing there?" The Bullfrog asked, tilting her head.
I bit my lip. "Nothing." I said, putting my pen down on the desk and turned my notebook over.
"Good." She replied, turning back to the board. The whispers had started now.
Leaning back in my chair and pulling my hood further over my face, I tried to focus on whatever the heck that alien at the front of the class was talking about.
But the whispers. They were getting irritating.By the time the bell rang through the hollow walls of the classroom, my foot had almost drove a groove into the floor with my impatient tapping.
I couldn't get out of there fast enough.
My phone vibrated in my pocket as I opened my locker.
"Hello?" I asked, putting the phone to my ear.
"Hey, Ash! You coming to practice tonight?" A familiar voice crackled down the line. I opened my mouth to respond, but an ear-piercing shriek shattered my sentence. I turned to the noise, almost certain of what it was caused by.
"Yeah, I'm coming." I simply said, before hanging up.Daniel Choi. Cheesy pink hair, stupid smirk, too cheery. That's all you need to know. Strutting down the hallway with girls on his arm, as if he would actually want to date any of them. Yeah, I can tell that girls in general, are not on his radar.
I turned back to my locker as they passed me, shoving books inside. I had nothing in particular against Choi - he didn't wrong me in any way. But, I didn't in any form like him. His aura irritated me. I'm sure you get it.
Closing my full locker and grabbing my backpack, I walked down the hall to the front door quickly, to whiny hollers of:
"Aww, little guy doesn't have any friends to eat wiv." and quieter murmurs of disgust.
I ignored them, as I always did. As I always do.

I took out my guitar from its case as I sat down on a speaker.
"Hey man. You've been acting kinda weird? You good?"
I nodded wordlessly as I stared at the music we'd agreed on playing. I'd been procrastinating, trying to make any excuse I could to avoid this one. I knew it like the back of my hand, had rehearsed it over and over in the confines of my room once. And now, playing it gave me a sick taste in my mouth. 'Cause I'd played it just before I lost my partner.
Michael, the drummer, gave me an unsure look while taking out his drumsticks. "You don't wanna play this song, do you?" Curse him and his ability to read people. "No. It's fine. I'm fine." I mumbled.
"Well, you better be fine, Ash. We're playing tonight remember?" Luke interjected, adjusting a mic stand.
"Yeah, I know." I blurted out, tired of the chit chat. "I'll be there, I promise. Can we just play already?"
🎸🎶
The clapping of the drunken crowd deafened me as another song ended. It was even more crowded here than usual, people filling up all the available chairs and standing around. I could almost pretend that we were at a concert - in a venue than a bar down the road from my apartment block.
The night was calm as I went home, guitar slung over my back. All I could really hear was the ever fainter murmurs of wasted people I'd left behind. I contemplated using the elevator to the 4th floor of the block, but I decided I was too tired to wait. A whole day of school plus practice plus performing had taken its toll on me, and all I wanted to do was lie in my bed and never get up.
After finally trudging up three flights of stairs, I took my key, only to be stopped by the last person I wanted to see at 10pm on a Friday night.
"Ash, hey wait!" Pink hair. Came running straight up to me. Gosh I'd forgotten we lived in the same building. Shame.
"Hi!" I raised an eyebrow as Choi continued, "I um...
"I saw you tonight."
