I’ll Remember
Lauren smiles when she opens the door, and sees her daughter standing on the doorstep with her grandchild next to her.
‘’Hi, honey, it’s so nice to see you!’’ she smiles while reaching out to give Romy a warm hug. ‘’Hey mom.’’ She replies, squeezing her mother’s shoulders with a smile and pressing a kiss against her cheek.
‘’Hi granny!’’ the ten year old next to Romy says happily.
‘’Hey there my little angel.’’ Lauren greets him and slowly bents down to be at his eye-level. She opens her arms for the boy to fall into and he wastes no time in doing so. Lauren takes a deep breath, and can’t fight the smile that graces her old lips, the energy of the young child making her think back to her younger days.
‘’How have you been Charlie?’’ Lauren asks him, pulling away from their hug but keeping her shoulders placed firmly on his shoulders.
‘’Great! I got an A on my English test yesterday!’’ Charlie tells her with a big, mischievous smile, his hazel eyes widen a little in anticipation.
‘’An A? That is so good, I’m incredibly proud of you. And you know what an A means right?’’ she asks him with a smile, her green eyes looking at him peacefully.
‘’Cookie-time!’’ Charlie yells and Lauren nods in agreement and steps aside to let her grandson run into her house and to the kitchen to grab one of her wife’s famous cookies.
Romy just smiles at the interaction and steps inside the house too, Lauren following her after closing the front door.
‘’Would you like some tea sweetheart?’’ Lauren asks her once Romy sits down on the brown leather sofa in the living room. ‘’Yes please, thanks mom.’’ Romy answers with a smile, watching Charlie stealing another cookie from the jar. She’s about to say something about it when she sees the look her mother is giving her.
‘’Grandma’s house, grandma’s rules. And there is one simple rule about food here: You can never eat too much.’’ Lauren says, pointing a finger at her before walking into the kitchen to make some tea and to get her grandson something to drink too.
Romy just chuckles and shakes her head. ‘’If my child ends up fat, it will be your fault.’’ She calls after Lauren, who just waves her hand dismissively.
‘’Where’s Brandon?’’ Lauren asks her from the kitchen, lifting Charlie up and setting him back on the ground from the counter. Once the boy stands on his feet again, two cookies in hand, Lauren grabs her lower back and suppresses a grown.
‘’Watch your back mom! You’re not the young goddess you once were anymore.’’ Romy says, watching her mom with worried eyes. ‘’I’m fine.’’ Lauren says with a sweet smile, waiting until the water is cooked while looking back at her daughter.
‘’So, where is he? Haven’t seen him in a while.’’ Lauren says, referring to her son in-law. Romy sighs and nods.
