Terrence’s POV
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
I walked through the halls with my head bent down muttering to myself. She was smart. One glance and she would know right away. Okay okay, relax. She’s only in like five of your classes.
Just great.
It was second period and I headed off to my English class. I pulled my hoodie lower and stepped in. As usual, no one noticed me as I made my way towards the back. I slunk in my seat and gazed around. When I saw her, my heart gave a lurch. There she was, her shiny blonde hair bouncing as she moved her head, her full lips that moved rhythmically as she spoke and laughed. Everything about her took my breath away. Even in her loose clothes, I could still tell she had a beautiful body.
I turned away before I would start to drool. There was no way she would ever notice me, I thought sadly
Then it struck me. As long as I continued my silent guy demeanor, there was no way she would notice me. I mean, she hadn’t noticed me for two years. Everything would be perfect.
Just then, Mr. Hawkins walked in and everybody quieted down.
“Good morning class” he said cheerfully. He was always so full of life every time he taught.
“Good morning Mr. Hawkins,” a few of us said.
Oh yeah, never come at high school juniors with the mind of a middle school teacher. Mr. Hawkins’ smile faltered a bit but he cheered up instantly.
I took the chance to glance at Olivia. She was sitting up straight in her chair, all her attention focused on the teacher. No wonder she was so smart.
“Today, we’re gonna be doing a very interactive topic,” said Mr. Hawkins turning to write on the board “Dialogue.”
The entire class (except Olivia) groaned. Mr. Hawkins laughed “Come on guys. It’s gonna be fun!”
I settled back in my chair, my eyes on my notebook. I began to zone out little by little. Not to brag but I really didn’t need all these classes. Where I grew up, the knowledge just had to be with you. Besides, teachers never called on me. Never. I was fine with that. As long as I didn’t make eye contact or put my head on the desk, I was practically invincible.
The voices in the room as people began to actually enjoy themselves became a blur until I heard my name.
“Mr. Waters?”
My head snapped up and I found the entire class staring at me.
I gulped slowly. “Y-yes sir?”
“Come on up” he beckoned with his hand. “You’re next.”
I slowly got up and made my way to the front of the class. I could hear all the whispers around me.
“Who is that?”
“Dunno. Never seen him before.”
“Like, is he new?”
“He looks a little cute though”
“Nah, I can’t even see his face”
I ignored them and stood to face the class. I wasn’t shy or anything. It was just weird being called on. I took a deep breathe, pushed up my glasses and looked at them.
I struggled to remain composed as Olivia stared curiously at me. It was the same look she had the previous night.
“Miss Mittson?” Come here too.” I heard Mr. Hawkins say
My stomach lurched. What did he…?
Oh no. Oh no.
She eagerly got up and came to stand beside me. She was so close, her shoulder lightly brushing mine. Sparks of electricity coursed through that place and at the same time, the aroma of her perfume filled my nostrils.
“So…let’s see. How about a first encounter,” Mr. Hawkins said
We turned to each other and once Olivia looked into my eyes, a flash of realization hit her.
She looked so shocked and confused.
“Ter-“
I put my hands on her arms and widened my eyes staring right into her own.
“Forget” I whispered as I thought of the previous night.
A flash of light appeared in her eyes briefly. She shook her head and blinked.
She looked at me again and asked “I’m sorry, have we met?”
It looked like it had worked. I stared at her, I needed to confirm.
“Don’t you remember me?” I said clearly “I was in your room last night. Don’t you remember?” I asked, gaining a lot of snickers from the class.
Olivia must have caught on after a moment because she turned around dramatically
“I have never let a man in my room, sir!” She said with a flourish of her hand.
Okay. It looked like it had worked. When we were done, we went back to our seats. I breathed a sigh of relief. At least that was over.
After the class, Mr. Hawkins told all of us to wait. I had a bad gut feeling almost instantly.
“Okay guys, I loved your presentations so much, I want you guys to continue them. Partner up with whoever you worked with today and present something even better tomorrow, okay? Remember, creativity develops the mind…”
I trudged out of the class feeling absolutely dejected. I had only just bared to escape that thing in class, now I had to work on a presentation?”
Suddenly, someone tapped me on my shoulder. I turned around to see Olivia looking up at me.
She smiled and I felt heat creeping up my neck
“Hey, Terrence right? That was a great job in class. So, wanna come over to my house and work on the presentation?”
My words got stuck in my throat. So I just nodded.
She smiled brightly and patted my shoulder. Then she walked past me saying “cool. I’ll see you after school!”
I turned and watched her retreating figure disappear into the crowd. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding and went after her.
We were going to the same class anyway.
The gravity of what I just did dawned on me. What I did to her wasn’t going to last for a long time. A few triggers would bring her memory back.
Especially me and her in a bedroom!
This was bad…
I caught a glimpse of her hair and sighed. I had fallen for this girl. Hard.
