"Here you are!" Finn announced, opening the wooden door with my key. "The glorious Cabin 14!"

"Wow," I gasped, walking into the cabin. On one side, there were two sets of bunk beds. The back wall had a window with a couch in front of it. The side opposite of the beds had four chests against it and a big window which overlooked the lake. "Did they remodel the cabins too?"

"Yup," Finn answered, kicking the door closed and sitting on an empty bed. "They completely flipped all the furniture after this kid got a massive bite from a bed bug and had to leave."

"Why'd he have to leave?"

"He was allergic. Luckily, the camp didn't get sued because the kid never reported any allergies to crawlers."

"Yikes," I said, moving my bags further into the room.

"Exactly, that's when we knew it was time," she said with eyes big. "Hey, it looks like your other roomies aren't here yet. You get first pick!"

I ended up choosing the chest and the top bunk farthest from the door. Finn helped me unpack my belongings into my big chest.

"I never got to ask you, B." Finn took a seat on our couch as she helped me organize my toiletries. "Why did you decide to volunteer this year? I know you like to do volunteer work, but you told me years ago that you didn't want to do volunteer work here specifically."

I sighed and stopped folding as I thought about what I was going to say. "I'm going through an existential crisis," I admitted.

Finn raised her brows at me curiously. She definitely thought I was joking.

"I just..." I huffed. "I have no idea what I want to do in life. I don't really know what I'm passionate in. I was hoping coming here would help me with that."

"So you need some inspiration?"

"Exactly," I answered, putting the last of my clothes away. "For example, I'm majoring in Nursing, but I can't even stand the sight of blood!"

"Oh honey," Finn laughed. "In terms of your existential crisis, I think you should take it slow. Coming here was a great idea but don't get so caught up in your search that you end up missing it completely... if that makes sense?"

I nodded slowly.

"Like, I'm sure you can find it here, but what if you don't?"

"Then I'm basically screwed," I sighed. "Life is moving way too fast."

"Tell me about it," Finn agreed. "I move into my dorm right after camp ends."

"You leave for New York so soon?" I gasped.

Finn gave me a sad smile but held my hands in hers. "Long distance never hurt us! And, we do have the next three months to kill each other."

"I guess you're right," I laughed, changing into a pair of shorts and my camp tee. Clipping my name-tag to my shirt, I told Finn to check the time.

"We definitely need to head out. Bonfire starts in like ten minutes. We'll have to run to the cafeteria and eat on the way there," Finn advised, skipping to the door.

"Wait for me!" I called out.

--

Most of the camp were already gathered in the stands surrounding the fire pit. Finn and I, late as usual, were lucky to have snagged a small space on the bench in the very back of the area. I didn't mind as I was too caught up in the frenzy that was in the air. I could feel everyone's excitement, and I was trying my best to contain mine as well.
