Neeran led Kanan and Ezra through a section of the forest before saying,
"Welcome to Haven."
Ezra looked at the clearing and saw that most of the inhabitants were children! He couldn't believe it. How many people did she have here?
"This is only half of the inhabitants," said Neeran, as if she'd read his mind. "One quarter of them have left here to cause rebellions around that Galaxy. And the other quarter are clone troopers."
"But," said Kanan. "Didn't the clone troopers kill most of the Jedi?"
"Not all of them turned," said Neeran, seemingly barely aware of what she was saying. "I still remember when I first met them. And right before many betrayed us. They'd changed so much in the space of three years."
"Mum!" shouted several children, running over to them.
"Where'd you go?"
"Who are these people?"
"One at a time," said Neeran crouching down to their height. "I went to meet an old friend. This is him, Kanan and..."
Neeran seemed to hesitate before saying, "And Ezra."
"Ezra?" piped up one child. "Do you mean Ezra Bridger?"
"That's the one."
"Everyone!" shouted the girl. "Ezra-niichan is back!"
"Wait, Janan," said Neeran, but it was too late.
"Ezra-ni?" whispered everyone.
"Janan, he doesn't remember us," said Neeran.
"Why not?" asked Janan.
"Because I wasn't allowed to let him keep his memories of here," said Neeran. "That's what his mother wanted when she talked to me last, before the Empire took her. She said he couldn't have them back until the time was right."
'Was that their dying wish?' wondered Ezra. 'Too only have part of my memory? Why?'
Tears welled up in Ezra's eyes and he turned swiftly and left.
Kanan turned and was about to say something when Neeran stopped him.
"Give him time. It's not something you find out everyday."
"What should we do then?" asked Kanan, worried for Ezra.
"Let him cool off," said Neeran, walking towards the centre of the village. "It's what I'd want."
Kanan decided to agree with Neeran, for now.
"And besides," said Neeran, "If he doesn't come back by dark, I'll go find. I think I know where he went anyway."
"You read my mind," muttered Kanan.
"Yeah," said Neeran smirking. "You project your thoughts very loudly."<time skip to ezra>
Ezra was running through the forest, but he didn't know where to. He just kept running. He just wanted to be alone, like he always had been.
Having let his thoughts wander, Ezra hadn't noticed the sheer drop in front of him until it was too late. Attempting to skid to a halt, Ezra tripped over his own feet and tumbled over the edge.
Ezra screamed as he fell off the cliff. He closed his eyes and waited for the impact.
"Al!" shouted someone below.
Ezra didn't open his eyes to look, he was about to die.
Suddenly, something caught him. Ezra opened his eyes to see two boys, who looked like fraternal twins, had crafted something to catch him.
"Are you okay?" asked the younger of the two.
"Are you Ezra?" asked the other bother.
"Yeah," replied Ezra slightly confused. "Who are you?"
"I'm Edward," said the older brother. "And this is my younger brother Alphonse, but we all call him Al."
That was when Ezra noticed Edwards' right arm and left leg weren't real. They were made of metal.
"What happened to your arm and leg?" asked Ezra, not thinking about Neeran's warning.
Edward and Alphonse looked at each other with stunned looks, before nodding and Edward said, "We attempted human transmutation."
"Human what?" asked Ezra, having never heard that word.
"I means we attempted to bring someone back from the dead," said Al. "And we payed pretty heavily."
"I lost my left leg and Al lost his whole body," said Edward. "Afterwards, I gave up my right arm to bring him back and tied his soul to a suit of armour."
"How's he here then?" asked Ezra.
"Neeran helped us," replied Al. "She can find recently lost souls and return them to their body's."
"Then how come Edward still has a metal arm and leg?" asked Ezra.
"She can only find complete souls, not parts of the human body," said Edward. "She hadn't given up enough to find my arm and leg, but I was still happy. I had my brother back."
"Brother, it's getting dark. We need to go back," said Al, staring at the sun.
Edward nodded and said to Ezra, "You gonna come with us? It's pretty dangerous out here at night."
"Ah, sure," said Ezra, mildly surprised that there'd be anything dangerous on this planet.<elsewhere>
"Looks like I don't have to go after him after all," said Neeran, flopping down on the ground and staring up at the evening sky.
"What makes you say that?" asked Kanan, sitting down as well.
"Well, two kids from here found him and saved him from falling to his death," replied Neeran. "Only problem was he ignored my warning about asking too many questions."
"What's he done this time?" asked Kanan, sighing.
"Well, he asked Ed and Al about their pasts," replied Neeran closing her eyes.
"Edward and Alphonse Elric?" asked Kanan.
"Yeah, those two."
"I thought they were dead," said Kanan.
"In a way, they were," said Neeran shrugging. "They've both lost things to the Other Side of the Gate."
"How did they see the Gate?" asked Kanan, amazed.
"They tried the same thing I did," said Neeran, opening her eyes. "Bringing a soul back from the dead. Human transmutation."
