Ayanokoji POV:

The second day of school.

Homeroom of Class 1-D.

On the second day of school, even though it was technically the first day of classes, the majority of the day was spent going over policies and rules. Many of the students had their expectations completely blown away by how nice and friendly the teachers were.

I've never been taught in a normal education setting before, but the only thing I could say was that it was amazing how lax everyone was for what was supposedly the most desired high school in the country. While the teachers were running through the course objectives, people were either arriving late, or casually chatting with their seatmates.

Having already made a big commotion the other day, the red haired guy was left alone as he slept like a log during class.

He didn't care. After all, deciding to listen to the lesson or not is our choice, so the teacher wasn't concerned. Only a couple of people were listening, the rest were talking in the middle of class and doing what they want. Is this how teachers interact with students that are no longer part of compulsory education?

The teachers made no move to reprimand or even notice what everyone was doing. In fact, they seemed to be intentionally ignoring it. Is this how teachers interact with students that are no longer part of compulsory education? Was this really okay for such a prestigious school? Was this how teachers normally behaved past compulsory education? Or was it....

Before I could gather my thoughts, the bell that signaled lunchtime rang out. Upon hearing the bell, the teacher closed out his explanation of the course and left the classroom. The already noisy classroom became even noisier with the chattering of people discussing where to eat lunch or what to eat.

I watched as people started to trickle out of the classroom for lunch. Although it was only the second day of school and the first day of classes, some people had already started to find their own small group of friends to hang out with.

I couldn't help but look in envy towards the others. Sadly, I wasn't able to make any close friends with my classmates.

To be honest, it seems like the near future will be troubling because I couldn't make any friends.

After all, being alone also stands out. If I became the object of bullying, I would certainly be conspicuous.

If I wasn't able to make any friends, I would be met with despair and loneliness. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit.

If don't make friends, soon enough, I'll be considered a loner and people won't try to talk to me.

It was peaceful, but I wanted some more of a cliche highschool experience.

Not even a minute after the ball rang, half the class became empty.

The people who are left either want to go but are alone just like me, are sleeping and not paying attention.

"I was thinking of going to eat, does anyone want to come with me?"

Hirata said as he stood up.

With that kind of thinking, he looks like a real riajuu.

Hirata, I'm coming now. Steeling my nerves, I slowly raised my hand...
