The girl felt her heart beat steady in her chest. Nothing new, nothing different but for some reason she noticed it. The thud after thud that kept her alive. Never before had she felt her heart when it was steady.
Her heart lulled her into a daydream state. She could see the world around her but she couldn't feel it. She couldn't hear it. The steady beat made her feel like she was in the clouds looking down on all these frantic people. She was not there, on the cold hard ground. She was floating on a cloud. All this girl could think about was her heart as it pumped blood through her veins. Her heart pumped fire through her veins. The fire that kept her alive and burning.
"Amy! Are you in there? Wake up! We are going to be late."
The girl snapped out of her daydream.
"I-I'm s-sorry I-I was d-dayd-dreaming."
"Amy you need to pull your empty head out of your ass. I don't have time for this! You are going to be late for your speech lesson!" Amy's mother screeched.
"I-I'm s-sorry."
"You are a disgrace. You disgust me. You're late for everything! Always stuck in your damn head. God dammit, Amy! I already have to pay, and drive you to, your stupid speech lessons because you can't speak like a normal person but then to make matters worse you can't bother to show up to them!"
The girl cowered under her mothers rage and left her spot at the window.
Her mother was a very powerful and angry person. Never did anyone cross her. Her words could cut someone so badly that they would leave feeling worthless and wishing they never knew the beast. She never spared anyone when it came to her rage, not even her own daughter.
The girl's steady heartbeat was long gone now. It was replaced by a faster, ever changing beat that scared her. No longer could she drift out into her happy place. Now she was just like one of those people on the street. Her heart pumped blood through her veins but it was no longer the fire that kept her burning brightly. Blood pumped through her veins but it was only blood. Blood that kept her alive to live through the nothingness.
