[Shoto's POV]

"Worthless."
"Useless."
"Why can't you just be better?"
"Do better."
"Be better."

I woke with a start. I wasn't really asleep, more like in that state where you're stuck between the dark abyss that is sleep and the even darker abyss that is being awake.

I'd been stuck in that state every night for a while now, making the bags under my eyes ever more prominent.

My nightmares were getting worse. I mean I've always had bad dreams but nowadays they've been getting worse.

Endeavor's voice was always present in my head whispering quietly in the back of my head everything wrong with me. Not the best thoughts for a fourteen-year-old to have (at least that's what I've been told) but it's always been like that for me. And I've never really known it to be any different.

I looked over at the clock that sat on my bedside table and saw that it read 2:03 am. Eh not the earliest I've been woken from nightmares but still too early for my taste. But I decided to get up anyway. Maybe I could take a walk. Morning wasn't my favorite time of the day, in fact I much rather preferred the night, but I wasn't one to waste the peace and quiet that I would find on the abandoned sidewalks of the early morning.

So, pulling a black hoodie over my messy hair, and pulling on a random pair of jeans, I shoved open my window and climbed out. Stepping into the chilly early morning air.

[Fuyumi's POV]

I woke to my alarm going off.

6:00.

I sighed loudly. My brothers say I'm a morning person but I'm really not. In fact, the only reason I force myself out of bed in the morning is because I know that if I don't no one will make breakfast and both Shoto and Natsuo will end up just eating dry cereal straight out of the box.

So, forcing myself out of the warmth and comfort of my bed, I quickly get dress and head to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Once in the kitchen, I grab a frying pan, some bacon, eggs, and put bread in the toaster. While the bacon cooks, I cut up some fruit to go with breakfast.

While I'm setting the table, I hear the front door slide open. Peeking my head out of the kitchen I see Shoto enter the entryway. He's dressed in dark jeans and a black hoodie, and he looks as if he didn't get any sleep.

"Where you out all night?"

He jumps. Clearly, he did not see me when he first walked in.

"No. I just went on a run."

He's very clearly lying. "So, you went running in jeans?"

"Yes."

"Really? You're really sticking with that story?"

"Yep."

*Deep sigh* "Fine. I'll let you go with that. But. If I find out, you were out doing something illegal you're done for." I say pointing my finger at him.
