Finding November Grace- Colton's POV.
Chapter 1.
"Do you think that your sister will bring a date to the wedding?" Amber says quietly as we drove through the city, my eyes and attention on the heavy traffic.
I was tired, so I shrug.
"Hey." She says softly, her hand reaching to gently touch my arm. "You ok?"
I reassure her with a small smile. "Maybe, she apparently brought someone to my brother's Halloween party."
"Brandon had a Halloween party?"
"No, Chris."
"Oh, why didn't we go?"
I shrugged. "We helped Ives make the day special for the boys, remember?"
Amber reaches over and squeezes my knee. "Oh yeah. You made it so special for them."
I smiled at her, looking briefly at her, and then focusing my attention back on the bright lights. We were up so late last night and then early this morning, so I knew my reactions would be slower.
Ivy and Jackson, our friends, are currently fostering two of their friend's children because the father is unwell. We don't really know what's going on or what's happening, but they've gone from a young couple starting out in their careers to having two children aged five and seven to look after. Amber and I are trying to be as supportive as we possibly can.
That's why after our dinner date tonight, Amber and I ordered another meal for Jack and we're now on our way to drop it off for him. They have had the boys for a few months now and this is the first time Ivy has left him at home with them both.
She's out with her closest friend and someone new, I think. I haven't been paying much attention lately.
He's worried, he was stressing all day at work about it.
It makes sense, Ivy is the reason why they have the boys. The way she is, the job she does and her relationship with their father is the core reason why Aiden and Mia chose Ivy to have the boys for the time being.
Jackson was just an addition.
Or well that is how he feels.
We pull through the traffic, and I notice Amber texting. "Who are you messaging?" I ask.
I know I probably shouldn't ask. But it's a habit we both have. I don't think it's a jealousy thing, it's purely just a curiosity thing. Our group is small, I guess I just want to see what is going on.
"Ivy." She mumbles.
"Is she good?"
"Yes, drunk I think."
"Oh." I laugh. "What is she-"
"She's just saying that she would have invited me but she knew I was out with you tonight. She asked if I wanted to join them."
Oh, that is friendly of her. "Join them if you want to, you're already dressed up. Like I could drop you off?"
Amber shakes her head. "Nah we have plans tonight to go through wedding stuff, right?"
I swallow, nod. "Yeah."
"So I want to do that. I love your friends, I do. But I love spending time with you more."
I reach over to her, and she catches my hand and entwines our fingers.
"Okay."
Amber lifts my hand and kisses it and I settle a little, glad that we're ok. We stayed up late talking through some shit that has happened the last couple of months. You know in relationships where you go through rough patches? I feel like we may have just gotten through one.
