"Look... it's the sunset."
Madison lifted her head at Chandler 's words to see the dying sun's fiery light. "Mm."
After a moment of silence, he asked, "Do you think we'll be together forever?"
"Please... let it be forever," Madison murmured in response.
Chandler didn't respond to this. She glanced over at him. "Chan? Is something wrong...?"
"Madison, I was just thinking...." he said in measured tones. "Maybe this isn't for the best."
"I... Chan ... why...?" Madison pleaded.
"Well, it's... I'm not good enough." He paused and tried to put it into words. "It's... people won't approve. You... you know?"
"Chandler ... are you... throwing me away?" Madison murmured distantly.
"No! It's... it's not that, Madison. I love you. But... the world... they won't accept us, don't you see? I'm not... I'm not good enough. You... you deserve better."
"I... I don't want that, don't you see? I want *you*, Chandler. Please. Don't... don't do this to me."
Chandler shook his head. "If anyone hurt you because of it, I... I couldn't stand it. It has to be this way. Don't you see?"
