2....

The months got longer.

4....

They seemed to stretch on the longer (h/s) was away. You missed them.

5....

Birthdays came and went, people grew up, still no sign.

7....

Fear settles in, they should be returning soon. You begin to wonder weather (C/c) will return or not.

10....

Much too long, you begin to lean towards the worst of happenings. Your heart tells you not to give in, that there's a perfectly logical reason for (C/c) to be gone so long. Your mind alters your thoughts, changing them into the scenarios that could have and possible did happen.

12....

Devastating, no sign for a year. Not a single letter. Not a single video. Not a single call. Text. Picture. Nothing. To you it seems as though (C/c) has been wiped off the face of the earth. That you won't ever see (h/h) face again.

14....

A sign. A single text. A single word.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

(Y/n) burst into tears at the small jingle that was set for receiving messages from (H/h). After over a year of hearing nothing from them, they had sent a text with a single word.

Corresponding with the alert, knocks came from the door to (Y/n)'s appartment, making a fresh wave of tears wash over (h/h) face. (H/S) tossed their phone on the bed that had been empty for so long, compressed on the right side where they had slept alone. Looking at the door to their apartment they were greated with (e/c) eyes and a lop-sided smile with open arms. (Y/n) began to bawl, letting themself fall into (c/c)'s embrace, something they hadn't felt for what seemed like eternities. (C/c) stroked (Y/n)'s hair soothingly, muttering apologies and 'I love you's. (Y/n) nodded back and cried into (h/h) shoulder, overwhelmed with happiness. "You came back...!" (H/s) managed out in between gasping sobs.

"Of course I did." (C/c) replied back, kissing them on the forehead, "Don't you remember what I messaged you before I left?" (Y/n) nodded, remembering the message (h/s) had sent (h/h) at the airport. 'I love you and I always will. I may be leavening, but I will return, one way or another. I'll return to you and you alone, (Y/n)' was what (c/c) had sent the day, a year and two months ago. (C/c) lead (h/h) to the bedroom and sat on the bed, holding (y/n) close while they sniffled. The white phone laying against the (f/c) bedspread, catching (h/h) attention. They reached over and grabbed the phone, looking at the messages.

(C/c) had tears in (h/h) eyes as they re-read the messages. "(Y/n)?"
