Mount Moon was massive, and over the years its inhabitants only seemed to grow stronger, becoming a bit more of a challenge to trainers who dared cross through its shadowy depths. Silver wandered through the darkness, steely eyes set and no fear in his heart. Silver had been training his team within Mount Moon for the past few days, eager to finally overtake Gold and defeat him in a battle. No matter how many steps Silver would take to strengthen himself, Gold always seemed to be three steps ahead.

It was aggravating, to say the least. Hopefully the trainers of Kanto would offer some sort of miracle to the red-headed trainer.

Suddenly, a glow around the corner made up of a wall of rock stopped Silver dead in his tracks. When the glow grew closer, the figure of a trainer appeared. A Typhlosion was accompanying him, the ring of flames around their neck flickering in the darkness. When Silver saw the trainer, his heart stuttered. It was none other than the headache that was Gold.

Why Gold always had a Pokémon out of their Pokéball with him never failed to confuse Silver; at least this time it was for a good purpose.

"What're you doing here?" Silver's voice came out sharper than intended, and Gold jerked his head over to the boy in surprise. Idiot, not being aware of his surroundings.. Silver huffed.

"Oh, hey Silver!" Gold greeted, smile growing. "It's been a while, huh?"

Silver narrowed his eyes, off-put by Gold's constant friendly demeanor. Had Silver not fully drilled into his rival's brain that he didn't like him? Gold was simply someone Silver compared his strength to, and someone he used as an example of the trainer he wanted to become.

It didn't matter that Silver was constantly thinking of Gold- of where he was or what he was doing- because it was all for the sake of wanting to beat him down.

Silver huffed. "It has," he answered, trying to sound cold as means to deter Gold's seemingly happy mood. Spoiler: it didn't work, much to Silver's annoyance. "Since I lost to you last time," the redhead said, "I thought about what I was lacking with my Pokémon."

Gold's Typhlosion growled softly, narrowing their eyes at Silver suspiciously. Gold, on the other hand, smiled a bit mischievously. "Oh? You figured it out then?" he asked, appearing as if he were amused by the conversation. How arrogant.

Silver mustered a smirk. "Yes," he answered, "but my team and I are gonna show it to you in a battle. I'm finally gonna beat you, once and for all."

Gold's Typhlosion let out a snarl, the flames along his neck rising in length- and probably temperature as well. Gold's smile didn't waver, and his golden gaze shone with sudden excitement. "If that's what you want," he said casually, and Silver hurriedly unclipped his Feraligatr's Pokéball from his belt.

.

After a battle that lasted for what felt like an eternity, Silver's Magneton fell to the ground with a loud, resounding thud that echoed in the caverns they resided in. Across from the hard rock floor they fought on, Gold's Politoed bounced in place, hurt and paralyzed but otherwise seeming perfectly fine. Silver would've most definitely had their battle in the bag if it hadn't been for Gold's frog Pokémon knowing Earthquake.

"Dammit," Silver hissed, recalling his Magneton and staring down at the red and white capsule. Anger bubbled in his chest, however he forced himself to remain calm as he clipped Magneton's Pokéball back to his belt.
