Maya's POV
"I can't believe this is happening, we're having a little baby girl" Carina says as she rubs my stomach smiling.
"We don't know it's even a girl yet" I remind her
"Well baby, even if your a little boy i'll still love you" Carina says kissing my stomach
I laugh at her and push her head away from me. She stands up taller and pulls me closer, kissing me.
"Stop, I have to go to work, remember, baby's cost money" I tell her as I pull away.
"Maybe you shouldn't fight fires with our little baby in you" Carina mentions
"Today will be my last I promise, but i'm still captain remember I can't just abandon my team"
"I remember" she says pulling me in for a goodbye kiss, "just be safe, I love you"
"I will, I love you too" I say heading out the door.
"Is it true, there is a little Maya and Carina baby in there?" Andy asks as she barges into my office.
"Shhh and how do you even know?" I ask
"Carina texted she wanted me to keep an eye out for you to make sure you didn't go into any burning buildings today, and so it was a guess but now you've confirmed it, AHHHH i'm so excited for you guys" she exclaims running up to hug me.
"Just don't tell anyone yet, and I'll be fine. I don't need anyone watching out for me" I tell her.
"Yeah I know, but i'm watching out for the baby, not you" she tells me
Before I have a chance to respond I hear the call come over the speaker and we both rush out of my office and change into gear and jump in the engine.
When we arrive I'm immediately taken back by how big the blaze is, and weirdly there's a split second of fear, what if i die? Will my baby die too? But it quickly fades when I hear Hughes voice.
"What's the plan Cap?" she asks
"Ok Hughes, Montgomery, Herrara and I will go in from the front to check for victims, everyone else hit the flames with the hoses from outside"
"Got it Cap" Gibson says as he and miller run to grab the hoses and the rest of the team mask up to follow me in the building.
"Are you sure this is safe for the baby, like smoke inhalation and all?" Andy says running up behind me
"It'll be fine Andy" I assure her, and myself as we walk in, Vic and Travis close behind.
"HELP PLEASE I'M STUCK" we hear a victim call out and I run straight towards her.
When I get there I realize she's being pinned down by what seems like a piece of metal, and of course my first instinct is to move it.
That's my first mistake because It immediately becomes unsteady and my second mistake was believing I had more strength than I did because I can only hold the Pole long enough for the victim to move but apparently not long enough for me to also get out from under it.
And now I'm trapped and It's hard to breathe, and my vision is blurry and it feels like the walls are closing in.
"Maya, omg Maya" I hear Andy's voice.
"Don't touch the pole" That's Travis I think
"I tried to move it... for the vic..tim, and then I.. wasn't.. I couldn't.." I try to explain
"It's ok, It's ok the victim is okay, Hughes is walking her out now"
"How are you going Maya?" Travis asks in the voice he uses when he's talking to victims
"I'm.. okay" I barely make out
"That's good now we're gonna check you out and then we're gonna get this pole off you ok?"
"Ok..." I answer
I feel them open my jacket and my top, and place the heart monitor on my chest, I hear it, it's steady.
And then all of a sudden I can't breathe, my chest is burning. I'm dizzy and then darkness.. That's all I see
