It wasn't new to the world that its end was coming. People were dying, animals were getting mad and politics were definitely out of the dying population's mind. The famous 90's were in no proper memories, no one could claim they saw those crazy times with their own -or even their grandparents'- eyes. Years and years had flew away to only let the awful creations of the humanity's worst flaws on earth. No hopes were left and what had to happen happened.
Humans destroyed their own house and selfishly left it for their undeserved survival.
Year 1089 F. K. -also known as 3176 relatively to that long lost calendar used on earth before its unfortunate faith- was only starting but everyone knew it would, once again, be a peaceful year. Since the beginning of the development of the new civilization on the famous space-base Liraycdi not a war had occurred, resulting in the 50 000 people forming the last bit of humanity to believe that maybe leading it to its worst would correct all its flaws.
It took time, but finally, 1089 years after the last human on earth's death, humanity was healthy again, they were becoming more numerous and dared to see a bit of hope in their dreams.
Everyone had always respected the Royal Family, there were some criminals but not many and most of the time they didn't stay long in the so-called jail. Merilly Tumplinder was the first of the dynasty, she became queen on a drunk mistake when they celebrated the rescue of as many people they could save. They called her queen and each year made the title more serious and difficult to hold. The Royal Family was the only part of the small civilization to be hidden. On the ship everyone knew everyone but the royal faces stayed unknown, probably only because of some man's ego at some point in the dynasty.
The inhabitants of the base knew they were living somewhere probably more luxurious, but the place was a mystery and no one actually tried to work on it, time meant money on board too and it was too short to let it go on useless research.
In this world based on simple life people missed the extravagant madness they read in books about life on earth and everyone shared the same memory of being a child looking at the window and wondering if maybe they would feel the natural dirt under their feet one day.
Maybe it was the -natural and peaceful- death of the king but a movement had started to be felt in the past decade on the ship. A few days after the death of the king Dr Julian, his first scientist, finished his life work and said that finally, -according to him- earth is ready and human could survive down there. The new king was expected to be surprised, his mum was, his friends were, his people was. But he was scared and sad. Not because he loved life on the Liraycdi -no one honestly did, food was gross and divertissement mediocre- but because the only way to know was to send someone to a certain death.
Oh how he wished his dad was still there to chose. He would have had no problem to say a name to those excited eyes in front of him after Dr Julian's announcement. But no, the old mentor was dead and he had to chose.
Time slowed when the king let his head fall under his complicated reflection. Some thought he would never speak again, some thought he would ask the people's opinion, some thought anything else but what actually happened. The king got up and said that they would send a prisoner and that he would choose the poor man by himself.
Dr Julian himself warned him about his dangerous choice, if life was indeed possible on earth they had no trust in the man holding this knowledge. It seemed like nonsense to the scientist's mind but very clever to the king's plan.
He, indeed, wasn't heartless and maybe the total opposite. But he was the only one who actually knew who would live the deadly journey.
And that's how, after two decades of preparation, the Royal Family saw one of their space-ships leave the base with the green planet behind it for the first time in their and ancestors' lives.
The man on board let officially no family or possession behind him, he didn't let any dreams or legacy, just a simple name on an official report: Louis Tomlinson.
