"Oh my God...what the fuck!"
Cassie came running out from the kitchen, but stopped dead in her tracks when she saw what Ben was looking at.
"Oh shit," she breathed out, her eyes going as wide as Ben's.
The kids came barging out from hearing their parents and rushed down the stairs. Both Ben and Cassie were in so much shock, they didn't even notice.
"Mom?" Michael curiously called when he saw the look on her face. Cassie whipped her head over to them, then quickly stopped them from coming any closer. "Go upstairs," she sternly ordered.
Before Jess could argue, Michael grabbed her arm and started pulling her back. He could see the look in his mom's eyes and could read that this was not the time for any kind of talk. So, he simply gave her a nod and got Jess to quickly go back upstairs.
Once they were gone, Cassie took a deep breath and walked over towards Ben. Once she started to go past him, he snatched her hand to stop. "Baby, don't," he pleaded, but she got her hand out of his and slowly knelt down.
"Sarah...Sarah, what did you do?"
She looked at her sister's blood stained hands as she was kneeling on the floor, her head buried down as far as it could go. She was gently rocking back and fourth, muttering things to herself. One of the hands was trembling as it held a large kitchen knife that was coated in blood.
"Ben," Cassie said, not taking her eyes off of the knife, "call the police." Sarah's head suddenly jerked up and she looked between both of them with pure fear in her eyes.
"Don't!" Sarah pleaded. "Please, Cassie, don't!" She started to break down and sob. She clenched the knife even more in her hand. Cassie gently held out her hand as she softly told her, "Give me the knife, Sarah."
Ben wanted so badly to swap places with Cassie, to haul her up and lock Sarah outside. However, he knows what it's like to wield a knife and he knows what it's like to feel immense rage as he did. He's afraid if he so much as twitched that Sarah would lose it and hurt her.
"Cassie," he softly begged, "please." He couldn't describe the fear he felt as he watched this.
Cassie ignored him and still held out her hand. Sarah looked at it, but didn't give her the knife. Instead, she looked into Cassie's eyes and cried, "I did it." Cassie inched back a little as she asked, "Did what?"
She had a gut feeling that she already knew. "Where's Zach?" She asked. Sarah took a shaky deep breath, then said, "With mom and dad." Cassie nodded, then asked, "In California?" Sarah nodded. "They...they came out to watch him. Tom and I came here...to celebrate our anniversary...but he just..."
She tightly shut her eyes and started to cry again. "Did he hurt you?" Cassie gently asked. Sarah opened her eyes as she said, "He found out. He found out Zachary isn't his. He revealed that he could fucking talk...He said he was going to tell Alec...I couldn't let him."
Cassie gulped and slowly stood back up. Ben reached forward and helped her, trying to not make any sudden movement that might trigger Sarah. Thankfully, she stayed put.
"You killed him," Ben said as soon as Cassie was up and safe. She slowly shook her head, making his eyes blow wide. "He's alive? Where?" She slowly lifted her eyes to glare at him. "Why the fuck would I tell you?"
Cassie scoffed, "Sarah, if he's alive, you need to tell us where!" She shook her head. Cassie turned to Ben and quietly said, "I'm calling the police." As soon as Sarah heard her, she leapt up with the knife facing towards her sister as she screeched, "No!"
Ben quickly grabbed Cassie and shielded her as the knife pierced through his back, instead of her chest. He screamed in pain, but reached back and yanked it out before spinning around with it now facing Sarah.
She started backing up from him so quickly, she tripped on her feet and fell against the apartment door that used to belong to Tom. Ben was seething with so much rage, he would have stabbed her a hundred times right then and there.
Instead, however, he asked through gritted teeth, "Where is Tom?" She looked up at him with the fear of God in her eyes. She was so paralyzed with fear, she couldn't answer. Ben heavily brought down the knife and stabbed the wall mere inches from her head. She screamed and covered her face.
"Where?!" He shouted. By now, the neighbors had stepped out to see what was going on so damn late at night. He ignored everyone that was staring as Sarah sobbed uncontrollably. "Th-the Marriott!" She sobbed. Ben rolled his eyes. "Which one?"
