Tess's P.O.V
"Do you need to be somewhere?" he asked,
I shook my head. What was I to say? I had to be somewhere but I couldn’t just leave him in here. “No…well…yes. I mean, I’ve got somewhere to go but it’s not important. They’ll understand.”
“Go,” he said. I looked at him. He wanted me to go away? “Just go. I don’t need you here. I don’t even want you here.”
I looked at him in wonder. What was his problem? First he wanted me to stay; now he wanted me to leave. Can’t he just make up his mind? He looked out the door and smirked, though it didn’t really look like his usually nasty smirk. “What? You think just because you feel guilty that I have to care? I just wanted you to stay so that…you’d be late for that so called date of yours!”
He had hesitated when he said that and I knew he was lying. I got up and turned to the door. If he wanted me to leave, I would. I didn’t want to burden him more with my presence. I faced him once again wondering what to say but instead I just left.
Outside the door, I leaned against the wall. I clutched my shirt where my heart was. Why was my heart beating so fast? Seeing Reece so vulnerable and weak made me feel different. Maybe it was because I had never seen him like that. He was always looking so tough and mean when he was with me. I began walking away from the sick bay and walked up the trail to my cabin.
The girls were all sitting in bed playing cards. I told them about Luke’s invitation and they all jumped up in joy. We got ready and headed up to the east wing where the boy’s cabins were. I realized that I didn’t know which cabin his was. I looked up the trail and saw him sitting on the front steps of his door. His cabin was the highest and at the end of the trail. He saw me come and stood up.
We reached him and he smiled, staring at my face. I felt self conscious and looked inside his cabin. It was the same built as mine but had a balcony at the back. His friends came out and greeted us. The girls behind me began giggling as they saw the boys. All of his friends were indeed quite good looking.
What school did he go to? Did they all have to be good looking to enter? We stepped in and saw the place quite clean. It was shocking to see as they were all boys. I looked around and realized they had cleaned it up. It was too clean, in fact, and I began to laugh.
They all stared at me and I covered my mouth. It was just hilarious and I pretended to look around the room. The boys sat on the bed and the girls just stood at the door pretending to be shy. I rolled my eyes.
“Hi, I’m Tess. These are my friends. That’s Emma, Gabriella and Jessica,” I said, pointing to each one of them. The boys smiled looking at each one of the girls up and down. Boys, I thought.
“Hello Tess,” Luke said, giving me a wink. I shook my head and smiled. “These are my…well, I don’t know what they are exactly but they tend to answer by the name Ben, Jack and Callum.”
One of the boys threw a pillow at Luke and we all laughed. We all began playing the ultimate camp game; Truth or dare. We sat in circles and used a water bottle to spin. It landed on Jessica and she smiled. “Truth!”
