Part VII

After their lucky escape from the clutches of the Voltaris, Yvana and Achillean find themselves battered and worn out in the back of Ingressus' car, being patched up by the man himself; but it wouldn't be much of a journey if Ingressus did not have a thing or two to spill - some truths that he had kept rather quiet

At least until a phone call from the man they had just escaped from flips the situation on its side and they are left on a double-edged sword, hoping for the best

Author's note: this is my absolute *favourite* part for a number of reasons. I just freaking love Ingressus' character and dialogue in this wayyy too much

also, I love it for a reason that you perhaps may or may not also like; but you'll get to that towards the end XD

also to note: Amaya Voltaris belongs to Cloudless_Sky and her fic "Will of the Stars." if you haven't read it, you absolutely should - you'd be stupid if you didn't. Markus Voltaris belongs to my "Aftermath" co-writer Joe and first features in "Unbroken"

don't worry, Joe, Markus is not a scumbag XD

"Achillean, are you trying to get yourself killed?! What were you thinking?!"

"I was thinking that I had this under control – and I still would have if you had only kept your neck in and minded your own business!"

"This is my business! I have warned you to steer clear so that you will not get hurt. I do not want you to get hurt..."

"Then stop it, Ingressus! Stop all of this! You don't have to carry on just because your father told you to, or because you think you must. I have nearly lost my life too many times cleaning up after you. Please, Ingressus. Just stop."

"You think that I am the one who is blind, Achillean, but in reality, it is you. You think that you are helping, but you are not. Far from it."

"Ingressus... A high-ranking group from your clan – your drug ring – just tried their damndest to kill me and my team, and you think that I am the one who is blind? I do not even know who you are anymore..."

"Then forget it, Achillean. Forget it all. Throw history to the wayside. Be the man that your father was – stand in my way at every step – but I am done watching you try to kill yourself by getting your ass involved every chance you get."

"So, that's it? You are just willing to sweep everything that we are in defiance of who we were under the carpet to trip over later? I really don't know you, after all..."

"Achillean... I am not going to be around all the time to save your ass every time you find yourself in over your head in business that was not yours to begin with. You are going to walk into the wrong situation and upset the wrong person and I am not going to be there to be your chaperone. How many more shootouts are you going to run head-on into before you go out exactly as Ardorus did, huh? You are just destined to be like him."

"I could say the same about you. You are more like Dominus than you realise, Ingressus, and I do not like it. Your father may have been a good man at heart, but look at what he has left behind – and look who is cleaning up after him..."

"No-one asked you to do that. In fact, I am asking the opposite."

"Well, it is too late now. I am in this mess, and I will not come out of it until it is gone; whatever the outcome."

"You are more foolish than I give you credit for..."

"Look who's talking..."

"Enough, Achillean. Enough. I have said my piece. I refuse to sit by and watch you kill yourself."

"And I am done watching you sit by and letting it happen. You know, you could do so much with your power, and still ignorance is bliss to you. You cannot buy your way out of this one, Ingressus; I cannot – and will not – abide any longer. I will, however, ensure that I am in this business until it is over."
