And then she opened her eyes.

And his Onyx eyes met hers, the left one sapphire blue and the right- a sort of opaque grey, altogether like Todoroki's but in reverse. He began to wonder if she could see clearly out of both, but thought asking might offend her. A look from her told him that he had been staring too long, and she expected an answer. Ojiro began to mentally panic. What should he say after her exposing her true self to him? What COULD he say that wouldn't come across condescending or insensitive? "You look.. uhh.. nice." As soon as the words left his mouth, he knew he had screwed up. No, he had badly (swear word)ed up! She turned her face away from him, with just a hint of pink in her cheeks.

He thought he had better apologise fast (though not sure how or what precisely to apologise for) when she interrupted his thoughts. "Thanks," she muttered, turning to face him again with a small but genuine smile, "you're actually the first person to say that outside my family, and the girls here.." Ojiro sensed there was more here still unsaid and waited patiently. Soon though, he begun wondering if it was his turn to speak again, though not sure what to say, and then she continued. "I've always been able to turn my Quirk on and off. Normally though, I'd just leave it on." Again she paused, seemingly trying to stop her voice from breaking before she went on. "It got tough at times through Middle School, people looking around me or right through me like I wasn't there, but... it was better than when people would look at me like... I'm a disease."

Ojiro slowly resumed hugging her, less vigorously this time but just as warmly. "I won't tell anyone, if you don't want me to Hagakure, but, you shouldn't have to feel you have to keep it secret, from the others. They'd all still be your friends if they knew." Hagakure gazed down at her floor, looking unsure of herself, before returning to his gaze and offering him a bright smile. " Yeah, sure... someday maybe.." Someday. The word seemed to echo in his mind like a bad joke you couldn't forget if you tried. Still the idea of it seemed to grant her a small measure of comfort, and he would by no means take that away from her.

Yet another (extremely awkward) silent moment passed between them. Ojiro cleared his throat. "Ahem, well, it's coming up to curfew so.. I'd better head back to my dorm. Don't forget what I said, I'm here anytime you need to talk alright? We all are." She nodded in understanding, and he took it as his cue to leave. He got up from the bed and made his way to her door, turning back once more to say goodnight, and found her stood beside him once more invisible incase anyone else happened to be nearby. Her sudden vanishing saddened him slightly after what he had just learnt, but he was not going to push her to open up to others before she was ready.

All these thoughts came to an abrupt halt when he saw her clothed form rise, as if on her tip toes, and he felt a tender kiss press against his left cheek. He looked to where he sensed her eyes were, no longer trying to hide the bright blush across his face. "Thanks Ojiro.. for being my hero." she said sweetly. He stood there for a moment trying to make his body function. Finally, he managed to murmur "Goodnight" before stepping out and closing the door behind him. He stood transfixed by her door, again trying to make his body work. Goodnight Toru. He said sadly in his mind. If anyone here was a coward, it was him. Why couldn't he call her by her first name to her face? Why couldn't he really open up to her after sharing such personal secrets? Why couldn't he-

It was way too late to be tormenting himself wondering why. He needed some sleep, and would sort out the mess in his mind in the morning. Someday he told himself.

A/N: OK, I'm impatient and have other plans and other stories in the works I want to focus on. I already have the other parts in draft so I'll be publishing the rest every few days over the next month or so. Stay tuned!
