I search my suit case looking for the black dress for my interview. Getting changed in my car won't be easy, but it has to be done, especially if I want to make it on time.
"Ah hah, found it!" I pull the dress out of the suit case and examine it, it's in perfect condition, a crinkle here and there, but other than that it's fine. I slide the dress on, trying not to kill myself in the process and I succeed, now the make-up and hair. I do my hair in a neat bun and my make-up consists of natural colours. A drop of sweat drips from my forehead and I wipe it off with a tissue.
"It'll be fine. Just don't screw up." I recite as I stare into the rear view mirror. I step out of my car, my cute, little, yellow mini, the car that Brooke paid half for. I cup my face in my hands, holding back my tears, I can't do this right now. I stand tall and and brush myself off.
"I've got this."
I start walking, the sound of my heels following behind me. I stop and look up at the building. In big letters, 'Harbour Magazine' stands above the entrance door, the building red and white and at least 50 floors. I think I'm going to vomit, but I stabilise myself and keep walking. I step into the revolving door and make my way into the building. People are rushing around on their phones with their coffees in hand. I walk towards the front desk and am welcomed by a woman with crimson hair. Is everything red around here?
"Hi, how can I help you?" She asks with a smile.
"Uh hi, I'm here to see..." I refer to my paper and look for the boss's name "Mr. Charles?" I ask nervously.
"Ah, the 1:30 appointment?" She asks with a dazzling smile, wow.
"Uh- yeah that's me." I say barely getting my words out. It's girls like this that make me question my sexuality.
"Please, take a seat over there, he'll be with you in a moment. Oh and it's Mr. Smith." She points to a white couch in the corner of the room, with a few plants around and a television.
"Thanks!" I say as I make my way over. I look at my watch as I sit down and it hits 1:30.
"Grace, if you could make your way to the top floor. Mr. Smith will see you now."
Smith? That sounds familiar, to familiar. I make my towards the elevator and wait for it to make its way down. It finally arrives and I step in after everyone gets out. I press floor 50, the top floor and make my way up. I get to 49 and there have been no stops yet. Unusual. I get to floor 50 and the doors open. I see a man with dirty blonde hair standing at the window of the office, in a suit. A very familiar suit.
"Hi Grace."
I almost faint. It's Tristian. I should've paid more attention when he was telling me about where he worked this morning.
"Oh my god. Tristian." I run towards him open arms and begin to cry. His arms are the only place I can seem to break down in right now.
"Woah, Grace, what's wrong?" He asks, pulling my head to his chest.
"Everything is wrong Tristian and most importantly, I lied to you." I let go and sit down in the seat opposite his, he takes a seat to.
"What do you mean, lied to me?" He asks cocking his head to the right.
"Brooke wasn't JUST my roommate. She's- she was, my girlfriend."
A look of shock explodes on Tristians face.
"Wait so you're-" i interrupt him.
"I don't know Tristian. Since I've started, y'know, doing stuff with you, I've been unsure. You've changed me Tristian, for better or worse? I have no idea, but you've changed me."
"I don't know what to say Grace. Except... I love you." The room goes quiet and my heart skips a beat.
"I don't know if I can do this right now." I say, my face in my hands.
"I'm not asking you to leap in my arms and say it back Grace, just take your time and find yourself. I take it that you aren't with Brooke anymore?" He asked uncertain.
"No. No I'm not." I say wiping away tear after tear.
"Do you have a place to stay?"
"Beside my car? No." I say with a tiny chuckle.
"How about you stay at my place for a few days, you'll have somewhere to eat, shower and sleep. You can stay for as long as you want."
"Thanks Tristian, but I'll have to decline." I say unsure.
"Oh c'mon Grace, you can't live in that car forever."
He's right, I can't, especially on a mini, I won't last a night in there.
"Fine, but I promise to stay out of your way, I'm really grateful Trstian thank you."
"It's fine, plus, I need someone to carpool to work with everyday." He says with a cheeky smile.
"Wait what? I'm hired? You didn't even interview me. Is this even allowed?" I ask shocked.
"I'm the boss now, I do what I want." He says with a shrug.
I can't believe this, the reason my relationship ended just hired me and I love him. Why do I love him? And he's not the reason. I am. I can't blame him for anything, he had no idea. Where are things gonna go from here, he's my boss and I live with him. I stand up and climb over the desk falling into his lap, my lips colliding with his. He picks up the phone across from us.
"Alexandra, cancel all appointments until 3:00... Thank you Alexandra." He puts the phone back down.
"Now where were we?"
