1 - can i tell you a secret?

"minji! wait up!" a voice called out for me as i was walking home from school.

i turned to face the voice and saw park jimin, who was running towards me. he was a good friend of mine that had been by my side for as long as i could remember. he was also my neighbor.

i stopped walking to wait for him. i liked his company, it always made me feel safe and secure in a way.

when he finally caught up to me, he put his hands on his knees and started panting. he was visibly tired from the running.

i offered him my water and smiled, "here."

he looked up from his stance and we locked eyes. his tired expression turned into a gentle smile. a smile that was hard to forget.

"thanks!" he took the water.

after he rested for a bit, we started to walk together. he seemed very cheerful.

in my mind, i thought, "something good must have happened today."

jimin was always cheerful, but he was much more excited today. i could feel the excitement radiating from him.

it made sense why he was popular; he was attractive, charismatic, and his happy energy is contagious. it's difficult to dislike him.

"did something happen today?"

"hm? well, not yet but it'll hopefully happen soon!" he looked at me and smiled once again.

at the time, i didn't realize how beautiful that smile was.

a few minutes passed and jimin tapped my shoulder. i glanced over my shoulder to look at him.

he got closer to me and i could feel his breath on my ear.

he whispered, "hey minji, can i tell you a secret?"

i nodded, not knowing what he was going to say next.

"so... there's this girl, right? i've known her for a while now but i just recently found out how much she mattered to me."

i was slightly shocked, jimin had never talked to me about any girls, let alone a crush. it was to be expected though, i had noticed the large amounts of girls who, very obviously, liked him.

i paused and said, "uh-huh.. i'm assuming that you like this girl then," he nodded, confirming.

"well, who's the girl?" i asked, curious to know which girl was the lucky winner of park jimin's heart.

he took a deep breath before speaking, "actually, that girl i'm talking about... it's you."

i nodded, "i see," trying to think of anybody i knew with the name yue.

jimin's face was visibly confused when i didn't respond. 

"minji?"

"there's a yue at our school?" i questioned obliviously.

he stopped walking and face palmed. then he walked towards me and flicked my forehead.

i winced and glared at him while holding my forehead, "what was that for?"

"minji, you huge idiot, it's YOU," and pointed at me.

"WHO IS YUE?" i raised my voice.

"oh my god," he took a deep breath and grabbed my shoulders, "minji, you are the girl i like."

"wait. huh?"

jimin smiled cheekily when i glanced at him. it was like he knew i would react like this.

"yep, minji, it's you," he tilted his head slightly, "i like you."

i was silent, unsure of what to say or feel.

"let me take you out on three dates. you probably don't know how you feel about me right now, so give me the chance to win you over."

i couldn't possibly reject that, so i told him, "okay."

then, we continued our walk home. my heart seemed to beat faster than usual.
