jimin and i were lying down on a blanket in the middle of a park, watching the clouds pass.

it was a spring afternoon. it wasn't too hot and it wasn't too cold. there was a slight breeze.

"minji?" i was closing my eyes when he called my name.

i murmured a "yes?"

"what do you want to do in the future?"

i opened my eyes and turned my body towards him.

"hm... i'm not sure yet. maybe singing?" i reached my hand out and played with his hair.

he looked into my eyes and whispered, "that fits you. your voice is beautiful."

i could feel the butterflies in my stomach when he said that. "shut up. you're just saying that so i don't hit you."

he chuckled and grinned, "no, i mean it, nari."

i looked away, too embarrassed to look him in the eyes. compliments were unusual to me.

after several seconds of silence go by, i asked while playing with his hair,"what about you?"

"me? well... i want to be an idol," he told me while smiling gently.

his face lit up, "hey, let's promise to both fight to reach our dreams!" he held out his pinky finger for a pinky promise.

i locked my pinky with his and nodded cheerfully.

a few months after the promise was made, jimin auditioned for a small entertainment company called bighit and became a trainee.

originally, minji and him both attended busan arts high school. this; however, changed when jimin had to move to seoul and transfer schools.

after finding out that he passed his audition, jimin went to his bedroom window, which was across from hers. he opened his and yelled out her name.

minji, who was on her bed reading, peered and opened her window once she saw who it was.

"minji! come outside. i have to tell you something important."

"okay!" she called out and then shut her window. jimin watched her figure exit the room quickly before rushing downstairs and out the house.

the two went to the park nearby and sat on the swings.

"so," minji wondered, "what is it?"

jimin gently rocked himself back and forth on the swing with his feet. "you know how i auditioned for an entertainment company?"

minji nodded and then jumped off her swing from excitement, "did you get in?"

jimin smiled largely and told her yes. his smile then faded, "but now that i'm a trainee, i can't stay in busan anymore."

his eyes averted to the floor. he didn't want to make eye contact with her, not now.

"oh."

"yeah," he sighed disappointedly.

"i'll be going to seoul soon, but i didn't want to go without telling you first," his eyes still focused on the playground floor.

she forced a grin on her face and held his face with both of her hands. she lifted his face up so that he'd look at her.

"i'm proud of you. you're definitely going to become a super popular idol."

he looked at her, admiring her face. his hands were now on hers.

"when i do, i won't forget you, so you better not find some rich and handsome guy and marry him," he huffed and looked away annoyed at the thought.

"hey! same goes for you too. don't even look at other girls," she furrowed her brows.

jimin laughed, "how could i? i already have you."

he looked back at her and removed her hands from his face and held them.

"i'll miss you," he squeezed her hands gently.

she did the same, "i'll miss you too."

on the day of jimin's departure, he gave minji a note and told her not to open it until he left. they exchanged their goodbyes and jimin left for seoul.

back inside her room, she sat down at her desk with the note in hand. she took a deep breath and then carefully opened the note.

"minji,

don't forget the promise we made to each other. i'll be waiting for you on the stage.
