'I assume you all know why you're here,' there's a startling clarity in his voice, he swivels on his heels, stopping abruptly at the centre of the board. He's a balding man with youthful eyes, the remnants of his hair are silver strokes clawing up his head in a sad chase to centre. 'You're all in trouble.'

A silence sweeps over the crowd of students, some who've never even seen each other since this gathering. Kids who look as young as eight and all the way up to eleven. The older kids are higher up on the metal bench-stairs, and the younger kids sit on the rug, meaning Katsuki's on the lowest bench, feet touching the rug behind even younger kids.

In the music room of an elementary school, everybody looks confusedly at each other. Nervous giggles die out in long, painful seconds. The man pushes his glasses up, then a huge smile breaks on his face: 'I'm joking. The deal here is that everybody in this room has been picked for the S.P.F.U.T.P, or the special program for unbelievably talented pupils. Some of you know this already,' he looks to a girl, who has remained calm throughout, 'did your parents tell you?'

She blinks, then shrugs. A badly hidden smile evident on her face.

The man's smile broadens, 'We sent an email in advance asking your parents' permissions. Meaning, everybody here will be an active participant, unless they refuse. Now, does anybody know what the special program is?'

More than a few hands shoot up. Who hasn't heard of the special program?

'Yes! You,' the man had picked the boy beside Katsuki.

'The special program isn't special Ed, right?'

His smile falters, 'No, no it isn't. What about you?' Eyes directing to the kid on his left.

Katsuki clenches his jaw, of course the world would never have it his way, he thinks of scowling at the man, but decides against it, 'It's for kids with good grades to talk about things.'

'Wellll...' the man considers it, 'yes, but any other answers before we move on?'

A grade six high on the benches, 'Uh, the district only started it this year but it's like, they cherry-pick the best students from third to sixth, I think? And like put them to talk, in local buildings? Community centres, I think?'

'Yes!' He declares so boldly some kids flinch, raising his arms up like a bird about to set off to the sky, 'close! Every single one of you is an exceptional pupil! All of you assessed on quickness of both your body and mind, then deemed above average when put up against the rest.' His voice dips an octave lower, like he was telling a secret, 'simply for the fact that you're here, means you're unbelievably talented.'

Katsuki already knows he's unbelievably talented, if this man's going to tell him what he already knows, there's no point in being here. He'd rather not miss class to be complimented by this loony.

When loony's done with fawning over the program, he starts introducing himself, 'I'm Chinen sensei and I'm the counsellor working with most of the districts, meaning, if you're having problems, emotional disputes, or homework, or anything, you can come talk it over with me.' For a second, Katsuki swears they're holding eye contact, but Chinen's eyes aren't on him, 'I'm a trusted adult, and my duty is to guide everybody here as they enter the special program. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but my job is to help you settle.

'Hopefully, some of you are settled already.' He takes in a breath, eyes lighting up, 'any questions?'

About a million hands shoot up. Katsuki sighs, knowing he'll be here for a while. He can barely scoot without the moron next to him sending him an ugly look, even though he's hogging all of the space. If Katsuki ever strikes away from the benches, he's taking that moron down first. It'd be a strike that would send the whole bench rippling, those high arms waving down like surrendering flags, and him returning to class in a mad dash. But it's a thought and it stays that way.
