This topic has bugged me for a long time now. It's a issue I want to talk about. Of course, some points are some you've already heard of but I want to speak of other issues too. Now sit back, relax, and cope my blabbering and rambling.


Now any person from a country that used to be occupied by a European power, will absolutely the Colonizer. As they should. The pain and enslavement that happened was horrible and of course the colonized country will probably never forgive them. Now the CH fandom has the habit of just showing the 'victors' side of story and they don't bother to view from the enemy and hero side.

A villain and antagonist are two separate things. A villain is a person who is actually evil and you should be against them for their crimes but a antagonist is someone who is just against your protagonist, whether they are evil or not. Now the general majority just take and make the antagonist a villain without actually reading history from both angles, one from their side and the other of their antagonist.

Take for instance Britain and India/Pak/Bangla. A person with a limited amount of knowledge and just having been taught the victor's side of history, they will see that Britain's colonization In India was beneficial to them. This isn't completely incorrect, there were benefits but there were more negatives then positives so that's inaccurate. This would make you look disrespectful and rude to the people who actually went through the colonization.

A person with a understanding of history will know that any European power did horrible things in their colony, not just Britain. Please, no matter how sweet and loving you can make France, she was as equally as bad as her husband. Stop with just Britain being the only horrible European, even Belgium did some stuff. Now this is a good understanding of the history, you know that Britain did bad and acknowledge the horrendous atrocities.

Now here comes this issue. Now of course, past Britain was awful, that is a fact but sometimes his evil reputation goes and impacts his modern personality too. The biggest argument being that he doesn't apologize for his actions. First, let me say this loud and clear, why do you expect any country to apologize for their actions? They never do, not even your own country will ever say sorry for any crimes they've done. If your own country will never then don't expect others to. 

Countries should apologize for their crimes, I agree they should. Now just think about it, people say someone SHOULD'VE or SHOULD apologize but they don't. That's the reality. You know that someone should do something but they never will. Also, I like modern UK. It's a nice place and It wants to move on from it's past. Making Modern countries evil for their past crimes is just wrong. Britain is way better now then before and i see that as an improvement.

Also the CH fandom as a very vague definition of governments and CHs being different. Look at Soviet, he's done some horrible stuff. It was horrible and stuff but just think about who your representing. Are you representing the people and country itself? or are you representing it's communist dictatorship government? Think about it! Why is your country and certain other countries victims of your governments while others are defined by their governments?

Some are just evil just because they are against you. I like to show CHs in good and bad light. The big thing I always have In mind is if someone from Britain or India were to read my book, they would guilty for the actions their country's committed. I want my CHs to seem human, not like comic book villains and heroes. Their bad and good actions make them more human like. One being evil while the other being good is wrong.

Now, just try to make them more human like. Neither Britain or his colonies are angels. I'm not excusing Brit's actions nor am I trying to make India or any other nation look bad. Make them more realistic, more human. There's a reason they are countryhumans, they need to act like humans. Humans are way more complex then you think. Make the setting more realistic. Don't base things are things that should've or should happen, just base them off reality.
