I kept holding his hand till, his hand grip tightens when we reached home as he doesn't want to let to of my hand. I know I was harsh on him for telling the truth and he must have startled too. He stood in front of the door staring at it.
"The door is unlocked." He pushed me back and became human shield.
"Ms. Henna might be here. She might be here to check on me."
I said entering inside. Ms. Henna was vacuuming. Jay followed me inside and greeted Ms. Henna.
"Hello, I am Jay."
"Hello. I am Henna, friendly neighbor. It's good to finally see you."
"It's good to see you too. I heard lot about you from Rashi and Rajan."
"I hope the good things." She giggles.
"Of course."
"Ms. Henna I cleaned house this morning. You don't have to clean here." I said while trying to take away vacuum from her but I failed. She refused.
"You guys left home early today and weren't back till evening. So, I thought by myself that the house might be messy. I just came few minutes ago. Both of you go and clean up. Let's have dinner together."
She went straight to the kitchen. Jay gave me a look that I quiet don't understand. I just wish to have a conversation with Jay but Ms. Henna has other plans. She served us food, didn't even let water by ourselves. Feels great be guest at home, I don't blame her to be this warming but sometimes she does too much and I just can't deal with it. Right now, I am just smiling and eating pasta she made. Jay is inhaling food while chatting with Ms. Henna. He is making too obvious that he wants to get rid of her. I checked my phone and there were fifteen calls and thirty texts messages from Piku. I am dead bull now.
I texted her without reading previous texts.
Hey there! Phone was on silent, didn't saw your calls. Wassup?
She replied instantly.
Never mind.
Oh boy! I am in big trouble. I can sense the anger behind her text "never mind" I know I have to reply quick and I have to reply 'I am sorry.' Quick reply and apologetic words. Ahh I hate how my brain stops working when I am stressed.
I am sorry. I am so sorry. I know that I promised to help but something came and I got stuck some where else. I should've informed but it just happened that way. I am sorry.
She replied immediately.
It's okay. Call me when you get free.
That's relief. I will make up to her by giving her all research papers and information she needs. That is one problem solved. Now, Ms. Henna. I need to send her back to her home and get new lock tomorrow. Rajan needs to trust me a little and not give Ms. Henna two spare keys of house. He and I are going to have a long talk about it.
I see Jay done with food and insisting on cleaning dishes but as usual Ms. Henna keeps on denying him and wanting to do herself.
"Ms. Henna, by any chance do you have extra bottle of liquid soap? I was supposed to buy it today but I forgot."
"Yes... Yes... I do have. Let me bring it." She went to her house to bring liquid soap and I rushed to sink hid half used liquid soap back into cabinet and took new one out and did all the dishes. Jay stood there in shocked, processing what just happened.
"JAY! Put on the apron. QUICK!!!"
I pushed him near to sink and handed him scrub and cloth. He looked confused but didn't utter a word of what I was doing. I bet he will hold on his breathe if I tell him.
Ms. Henna came back soon as I expected. She was smiling holding the liquid soap and another container smells like chocolate.
"What are you doing Jay?" She saw him and her smile went away.
"I told him no to but he insists on doing the dishes. There was one left in the store room back. He went in and found it." I said hoping Jay won't say a word.
"Why? I told you I was going to do it." She handed me the container and walked to Jay.
I opened the container, can't resist the smell. She made brownies. I took bite and I feel like someone was staring at me. I looked up taking another bite of brownie and Jay was staring at me. He looks so done with me. Damn I was distracted by brownies. I put the container aside on the table and clam Ms. Henna down.
"I am sorry on his behalf Ms. Henna. He is new, let me off the hook." I said and eyed Jay to put down the scrub and cloth he was holding.
"I don't want apology. It's fine. I guess I took too much of your time. I will leave." She said putting down the dish soap.
"I am sorry Ms. Henna, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings this way. I just have slight OCD. These dishes got on my nerve. I couldn't help it." Jay covered it good.
"Oh, I understand." Did she mean it sarcastically?
I feel so bad about it. I never wanted to hurt her feelings. She also made brownies. I am such a bad person. Should I confess? NOOO!!! That would hurt her feelings even more. Damn brain think, think.
"Ms. Henna, I apologize from my heart. I didn't mean too. If it helps I'll undo it." Jay said and Ms. Henna giggles.
Wait a minute, I missed a joke. What did he say? She laughed that is important.
"That's okay folks. I made brownies, you both enjoy it. I have to up early."
"I think Rashi will have all brownies, I have to fight for it." Jay said handing me scrub and apron.
"I will make more tomorrow. Goodnight to you two."
"Goodnight Ms. Henna and thank you for the dinner." I said seeing her out.
