"Verily, every beginning has an end"

2021.
Abuja, Nigeria. One Year Later.

"Get your lazy ass off this bed now!" Banina yelled, smacking Jalilah on her behind.

"Banina, leave me alone!" Jalilah groaned, pressing a pillow over her face in defiance.

"Today is my wedding day, and you're still in your freaking pajamas!" Banina shrieked, hands on her hips, exasperated.

"So I shouldn't sleep, Ninah?" Jalilah shot back, irritated that her cherished beauty sleep was being cut short.

"Leave her, Ninah; we'll all go and leave her alone." Amani chimed in, laughing softly. Over the past year, their bond had grown deeper than ever, close enough to be mistaken for sisters. The three of them called themselves "The Trio," blissfully unaware that the connection they shared was far more than just friendship; in reality, they were siblings.

Today was Banina and Amaar's Nikah day, and neither of them could contain their happiness. The events of the past days—ladies' night, the kamu ceremony, and a festive dinner—had led up to this moment. Today, they would finally be united as Mr. and Mrs.

The lively chatter continued until Hajiya Khadijah entered the room, looking exceptionally regal in a royal blue lace ensemble that complimented her fair skin, gold jewelry adorning her, and a sweet one-year-old Fayzan in her arms. Fayzan looked irresistibly cute in a tiny brown kaftan and a perfectly matched mini babban riga, identical to Jalal's attire for the Nikah. Both father and son looked charming, drawing smiles from everyone around them.

"Don't tell me she isn't awake yet! It's nearly 11 a.m.!" Hajiya Khadijah exclaimed dramatically, her tone filled with playful exaggeration.

"Yes, Mummy! I've been trying to get her up!" Banina said, emerging from the bathroom, her hair freshly washed and still damp.

"Ya Allah! When will this girl ever change?" Hajiya Khadijah sighed theatrically, earning laughter from Banina and Amani.

"Don't worry, Mummy. I know exactly what to do. She'll be up in seconds." Banina grinned mischievously.

She knew Jalilah's weakness: her absolute love for Fayzan. So Banina gently pinched him, and as expected, the baby's cries jolted Jalilah awake.

"My baby!" she cried, scrambling out of bed, causing the others to burst into laughter.

"Hmph! So, you wouldn't wake up until now, Jalilah?" Hajiya Khadijah teased.
