Sinopse
Controlled by a complex network of cells, every human on the planet is kept alive by an invisible operating system that is, for the most part, completely ignored. Although humans don't think much about how they manage to function, day in and day out, the cells in the human body are at constant work, doing their part to keep your human alive and well. And that's why, on the outside, Kim YuMi may appear to be like any other working woman in the world, but underneath her ordinary exterior lies something truly extraordinary.
After suffering a painful breakup recently, YuMi's love cells went into a deep coma. While the surrounding cells work hard to revive her compatriots, YuMi spends her day trapped in the rhythm of everyday life. Heartbroken and with no romantic suitors, YuMi's love cells could be in serious trouble if it weren't for the sudden appearance of Goo Woong. As an emotionally undeveloped game developer, Goo Woong has no idea how to express his true feelings, but after meeting YuMi, he feels like giving it a try. With their love cells unexpectedly bringing YuMi's cells back to life, things between the two start to get interesting.
With both Yumi's and Goo Woong's cells working overtime, the two get even closer. But will the efforts of this small group of cells really be enough to unite the two hearts forever? (credits: Rakuten Viki)
Review
Yumi Cells is without a doubt an adult novel. Of course, it does not contain explicit scenes and inappropriate words, as the recommended age is for over 15 years old, but it is a mature novel. Language techniques such as love triangles, "occasional" encounters, romantic disappointments, or spicy scenes are used in film and television productions around the world, however even if the guest actors are famous, no drama is sustained only in the novel if the main story is horrible.
Who has never been disappointed with at least 1 movie by their favorite actor? Tell me what is the name of your disappointment(movie)?
Unlike most dramas, I've watched (I started watching k-dramas in 2017), here we have a cliché reversal. In case your reader is as old as I am in this cinematographic world, you already know the Cinderella cliché, that is, the poor woman with a good heart and the bad boy rich man who goes "improving" with time. So in Yumi Cells, we have Yumi as a good woman and very well employed (a little bitter about her relationships) and Woong as a man who is financially unstable but has a great heart and personality (though his intentions are unclear).
So don't expect to see teenage crises here! Just adult slap punches.
Themes like self-love, trust in relationships, life changes, and others help to create not only a script rich with real situations but also increase empathy with each character. In fact, everyone has their defects and qualities, which 100% of the time are caused by their cells.
But how do cells work in this script?
The cells are separated into Rational, Emotional, Clean, Fashion, among others in Yumi's case. During the episodes we are also introduced to other important cells depending on each character, I advise you to read the original webcomics for those who want to go deeper and understand their behavior.
Positives, in my opinion:
1. There is no villain in the story. Instead of blaming a single character, the script is concerned with giving feedback on the behavior and feelings of all characters.
2. There is a development of Yumi's attitude, so with each challenge the character becomes more mature.
3. Show good and bad moments in a relationship.
4. THERE IS NO TERMINATION FOR CHILDREN'S REASONS.
Negative points, in my opinion:
1. Since it's an adaptation a lot has been cut, rewritten, or added, so the original 512-chapter story has also been split into seasons to make it work on television.
