I need fresh air.
I rose up from my seat and started walking towards the elevators and told the woman on the screen to take me to the lobby.
After what seemed like forever, the elevator doors opened and I was in the lobby. I located the exit and started making my way toward it.
I went outside unbuttoned the first two buttons of my blazer and started walking to Central Park.
I sat on one of the big stones enjoying the view of the pond.
Two men started to make their way towards the pond picking up stones from the ground on their way.
Oh shit, that's Peter and Harry.
"You know when my father sent me away I tried to forget everything about this place. I guess that kind of included you," Harry told Peter throwing pebbles into the pond.
I started slowly crawling back from the stones trying my best for them not to see me, but I tripped over one of the stones and fell to the ground.
Unfortunately, Peter noticed my presence.
"Maria! Nice to see you here," Peter said giving me that look. I rolled my eyes. Damn it, they saw me.
Harry turned around and saw me too.
"You two know each other?" Harry asked Peter.
"Yeah, we're cousins," Peter said giving Harry a sideways glance.
"Hi, didn't expect to see you here Mr. Osborn," I said awkwardly gritting my teeth.
"Call me Harry. You're new here?"
"No, I just graduated recently and was looking for a job and that's when I met you. I didn't know you and Peter knew each other as well."
"Yeah, he helped me out when my folks... you know?"
"Yeah," I understood what Peter meant.
"Well, welcome to Oscorp Maria," Harry said while spreading his arms out dramatically and smiling. I smiled placing my hand on my forehead.
"Aww you guys make me jump off a cliff," Peter mocked me placing his hands inside his pockets.I threw a pebble at him in response. He just dodged it. Harry started walking towards me. He eyed me up and down smirking like a demon.
"Well Ms. Parker," he got a hold of my hand.
"I was wondering if you would like to have dinner with me?" I glanced at Peter. He just shrugged his shoulders.
"Aren't you busy? I don't wanna get in between your work."
"No, not at all."
"Plus, I'm afraid I didn't finish the task that you assigned me earlier."
"We can delay that for later. What do you say?" I thought of his offer for a quick second.
"I guess it can be delayed."
"Alright, I'll pick you up at seven? Is that fine?"
"Totally fine by me."
"Okay great, I'll see you then."
"Hmm," I nodded. I looked behind Harry.
"Peter, I'm gonna get going. I told Mum that I would help her with the chores."
"Alright, and tell Aunt May that I'll be late for lunch."
"Okay, see ya guys," I waved at them and started walking slowly to the subway station.I took the train home and walked up the stairs and opened the door.
"Maria? Is that you?" Mum shouted across the kitchen.
"Yes!" I took off my shoes then placed my purse on the couch and walked to the kitchen. That's when I saw Mum next to the laundromat.
"What are you doing mum?"
"These clothes keep turning blue and red and I'm trying to figure out what's wrong." Looks like Peter's been washing his suit with regular clothes again, I thought to myself."Mum, you go fold the dried clothes I'll take care of this."
"Thanks, sweetheart," Mum kissed my forehead and went upstairs. I waited for her to go to her bedroom. As soon as I heard her door creak I quickly dug into the laundry and took out Peter's suit. I quickly made my way upstairs to Peter's room and placed his suit in his closet behind his other clothes and shut the closet door.
I went downstairs and resumed the laundry and started finishing up any chores that were left for me.
After I finished the chores I checked the time and it read five-thirty.
Harry said he would pick me up at seven, so I'm guessing I have two more hours to get ready. I quickly finished rinsing the last dirty dish and burrowed some clean clothes from my room and made my way to the shower.
"Peter!" I called out, banging on his door urgently. "Peter, please open the door, it's important!"
"Just a second!" Peter's voice came from the other side of the door. Finally, he opened the door with a crack, peeking his head out. I pushed the door open further, causing him to step back in surprise. "What's going on? I'm busy," he said, crossing his arms.
I took a deep breath, trying to figure out how to explain the strange occurrences that had been happening since we snuck into Oscorp. "I know this might sound crazy, but I need you to believe me, okay?" Peter nodded, fully focused on what I had to say. "I have been feeling strange like I keep finding out I can do all these things that I had no idea I was capable of. As if I gained..."
"...powers" Peter finished for me. "Yes!" I snapped my fingers at the accuracy of his statement. Then the realization hit me. "You have been experiencing the same things haven't you?"
"Yeah, I have been," he answered my question. I smacked his bicep out of anger. "Ouch, Maria! Why would you do that??"
"Because you have been keeping it a secret from me. I tell you everything and I expect the same thing from you, Peter."
"Okay! Fine! I'm sorry!" he slightly raised his voice while whispering.
"Apologies accepted and you better not do it again."
"I won't. Truce?" Peter said holding out his index finger. I rolled my eyes knowing that he was trying to recreate the handshake we made when we were kids.
"Truce."
