In An Act Of True Love...

The story

On this day of 2043, Mathew is coming back from the third world war during a Meta epidemic. Meta is a deadly illness that eats away at the heart and lungs of its host. It is highly contagious and it can kill someone in a few months. Mathew rides the flying bus home to the country of Berlin in Germany to see his wife Alexa, a nurse.

As he arrives home, Alexa realizes that he looks pale. She tells herself that it's probably just the effects of the war. After multiple days, Mathew does not get better so his wife takes him to get tested for Meta. The doctors inform Mathew that the test result is positive but that there is nothing they can do about it.

Alexa gives her husband painkillers to stop his pain. She then decides to bring her love to her boss, an experienced doctor, in the hopes that he can help. Sadly, the doctor isn't able to cure Mathew so he recommends a more specialized doctor. The next day, the couple goes to visit Dr. Chang, who was recommended by Alexa's boss. Dr. Chang welcomes the couple with kindness and runs a few tests on Mathew to see which parts of his body are touched by the virus. After looking at the X-rays, he realizes that Mathew's heart and lungs are slowly disappearing. He explains to the war veteran and the nurse that the only way for Mathew to survive is if his organs are replaced. Unfortunately, because so many people have had their organs replaced due to Meta, the doctor doesn't have any for Mathew.

In an act of true love, Alexa tells the doctor that she is ready to give her organs and die to save her loved one. At first, Mathew is not at all comfortable with this idea but after multiple discussions, he agrees to let his wife perish even though the decision is against his will.

The operation takes place in the Dublin General Hospital. After the operation, Dr. Chang comes up with a revolutionary idea. A while back, the doctor had created robotic organs for a scientific project. He quickly gets them and places them into Alexa's body hoping that they will work. The robotic organs are a success! The couple gets to live in peace and love for the rest of their life.
