Whether the weather was good or not it was something he didn't care at all, he was too busy trying to ignore all the numbers around him.
Since he was little that he knew he was special. His family always had someone special.
He walked faster, just wanting to arrive his house and to close his eyes to rest.
As he arrived home his father was just leaving.
"Where are you going?" he asked casually closing the door behind him.
"I got a call from work, I have to go there." his father said while grabbing his suitcase, he worked on a big company. "Your mother should be arriving"
The boy simply nodded and watched his father leaving for work once again, even if it was his day off he would usually go to work if something came up.
The door was shut once again and then the silence took over the house.
He sighed in relief for not having all those numbers around him.
He was just like his grandfather, he was someone special, the oracle, the only person who could see the time left for everyone, even his own parents. That was something he had to grew accustomed to, seeing what time left his mother or his father had, nowadays he wouldn't look above his parents heads to prevent knowing the dreaded date.
Like the watch everyone had that showed the person the time left of their lives he could see it too, he wouldn't know his own, the watch didn't work on him because he was the oracle. If he chose too he could save people, for instance if someone is about to cross the street and he sees that he's about to die from a hit and run or something similar he could stop the person from crossing the street.
Colton got to his room and placed his backpack in the floor near the desk, he then laid down on his bed and look at the ceiling.
"I'm so tired of this" he mumbled to himself about the role he has. "Watching people kill themselves with their choices and actions, how could you do it Grandpa?" he asked knowing that he had no answer.
His grandfather passed away when he was little, he was the first person he saw the timer go down and reach 00:00, he cried for days asking his father what was the numbers above grandpa's head bud his dad, not being like him, only could tell him stories, later he found out by reading his grandfather's books.
Each Oracle appeared from fifty to fifty years, so his father wasn't one but he was and then his grandchildren were destined to be one too, at least one of them.
Colton looked at the book on top of the night stand, it was his grandfather's journal, it looked old, with the leather cover. He grabbed it and opened it admiring his old man's writing, such a fluent writing and there it was, written all he had to know.
"1. Learn to live with it. "
Was his first rule, to learn how to live with this gift.
"2. You can't save everyone."
Other one he had to grow used to, not being able to save everyone and at the same time knowing they are going to die.
"3. You can ignore it"
With that he meant that Colton had to learn how to see something and bypass others, sometimes being the oracle can be annoying as his grandfather had written.
When Colton felt alone and that he had no one to teach him the ways of the Oracle he would turn to the book, it was like his grandpa knew he would need it, like he was talking with him.
"I miss you so much Granpa." he mumbled.
The next minutes were spent in silence, lost in his thoughts, until his mother arrived taking him out of his trance with the sound of the door closing.
"Colton, I'm home!" she announced even though he had already heard her. "I know your father went to work." she informed as she went up the stairs showing up at his room's door, a small smile on her face, showing her whit teeth, she had grey eyes, one that he inherited, her brown curly hair framing her slightly round face perfectly.
"Hey mum " he finally said with a smile.
"Do you want to help me make dinner dear? " she asked already knowing the answer.
"I'll pass mum" he answered.
"As I expected" she said and went in his room kissing him in the forehead "If yu want something I'm in the living room, I'll rest a bit before making dinner" she said and he nodded.
She went out of the room and he got up sitting in his desk turning his computer on, he was in need for something to distract him and in the next day he wouldn't have collage classes so he could rest more.
