You and Carl made a promise to each other a while ago, when the two of you first got together. No matter what happened, you'd always find time for each other. With that came the agreement of at least one day alone with each other, which usually meant going to your favorite place and having a picnic. Even though you usually did the same thing each time, it never got old. How could it? Spending quality time with Carl never did. He was the one person who you could live the same day on repeat with and never get tired of the look in his eye when he looked into yours. That look of love and adoration that blended so wonderfully with his kind smile and gentle touch. Every day with him was a good day, no matter what.
Today, you two would probably do the same as you always did for your monthly, and sometimes bi-monthly, dates, but that didn't make it any less special. Both you and Carl didn't have much to do, so you figured it was as good a day as any. Well, except for the fact that you were going to do more than usual and stay out later than usual. You packed some food, making both lunch and dinner for the two of you, while Carl got dressed and got everything ready to go. Once you were both ready, you snuck out of Alexandria. You always acted like you were doing it in secret, but just about everyone knew you two did it. You two kept as quiet as you could, trying not to draw any unwanted attention as you made your way to your favorite spot. It was a bit dangerous, but that just made it more thrilling.
Once you got there, it was like the weight of all your burdens fell off your shoulders. Carl spread out the blanket in the middle of the clearing and you both sat down, getting out the snacks and drinks. You sat close to each other, you leaning on Carl's shoulder as he gently placed his hand on your leg, just wanting to be touching you in some way. He was always like that, even if he refused to admit it. You two just sat there, occasionally speaking briefly to point out a butterfly or an animal, but other than that you two just sat in silence, enjoying the peacefulness.
As you were looking around the clearing, you noticed a patch of pretty wildflowers. There were a variety of different colors, but the ones that caught your eye were small, pink, daisy-like flowers. You looked over to Carl and got an idea.
"Hey, Carl...?" You started.
"Yeah?" He replied looking over to you and noticing that mischievous look on your face. "What are you planning..."
"Can I put flowers in your hair?" You blurted out so excitedly that the words almost blended together.
Carl looked over at the patch of wildflowers, then back at you, and sighed as a soft smile grew on his face. "Of course, my love."
You squealed with excitement and jumped up, running over to the patch of flowers and picking as many pink and red flowers as you could hold, Carl coming over and watching you with his kind smile. Once done, you jumped back up and ran to the blanket, sitting down and calling your boyfriend to you. He walked over and sat in front of you with his back to you so you could work. You carefully placed the beautiful flowers into his beautiful hair, smiling brightly. Although he couldn't see your face of joy, he could picture the smile this brought you.
After a few minutes, you were done, and he had flowers in his fluffy hair. You sat in front of him and smiled at him as you gently tucked the biggest one behind his ear, leaning in and giving him a gentle kiss on the tip of his nose. He smiled and laughed, gently putting his hand behind your head and pulling you closer, giving you a proper kiss as he laced his fingers into your hair. You gently let your hand slip down to rest on his shoulder and your other hand on his cheek as you kissed him back. It was gentle and caring, and you could both feel the love radiating from the other. After a little bit, you pulled away and looked at him. He looked down at something so, out of curiosity, you glanced down as well to see a bouquet of brightly colored flowers from the patch at the edge of the forest. They were in many different colors and types. He must have gotten them while you were getting flowers for his hair. You looked back up at him with a smile and a slightly red face and he was looking away, his face just as red with an awkward smile.
"They're beautiful, my vaquero." You said softly as you gently kissed his cheek. He looked back at you as you pulled away, his smile growing as he began to laugh, the charming one you always thought sounded like if bubbles could laugh. It was incredibly contagious, so you started laughing as well, leaning in and resting your head against his chest as you both laughed.
It was a perfect day; one of fun and giggles and laughter and love. You two ate lunch together and cuddled together on the blanket, resuming your peaceful silence.
