Hello! If you read this, it's that you want to make your own CH character, or that you want to know how to proceed! Well, you might be surprised to learn that it's really not that hard!

In countryhuman, you can hear two things: country and human. In this first part, we'll be working on the "Country" part of the thing! If you're not interested in that, or if you already have a clear idea of how your Countryhuman's country works, you can skip to the English part 2 (even if I strongly advice you to stay, since some things discussed here will be helpful for part 2), or you can stay here to see if there's anything you might have missed that could help you.

Ok, that being said, let's move on!

So, we'll divide this part in a few big concepts:
1) The geography of your country
2) The demography of your country
3) The politic of your country
4) The history of your country
5) The culture of your country

Part 1.1: The geography

The first thing you will have to think about when creating your country is where do you want it to be. Countryhumans who come from warmer region will tend to be seen as friendlier than those coming from colder region (with some exceptions, of course). If your country is located in an area difficult of access, like in the middle of a desert, your countryhuman might also have more difficulties interacting with other countries. This will give you your first indications concerning your character's personality.

Secondly, you might want to look at the inside of your country: are there deserts? mountains? forests? Basically, how does your country look on the inside? Countryhumans with a lot of difficult areas inside the country are often seen as being more secret in a way, again, with some exceptions. If there's a lot of rainforests or dangerous areas in your country, your countryhuman might be more adventurous! You can also play with that to subvert other's expectations, like for instance: your country has a lot of dangerous animals, but your countryhuman is a coward.

Another thing you can think of is how the inhabitants of your country can take advantage of your country's geography... For instance, if there's a lot of caves, they might have built an underground city, or if there's a lot of mountains, they might have found a way to build villages in height! This could give you clues about your character's abilities, or how resourceful they are! If there a lot of underground cities in your country for example, your countryhuman might be able to see in the dark!

Part 1.2: The demography

Speaking of your country's people, you might find it useful to ask yourself how do they live. What are the resources they dispose of? If your country is a well developed country, they might be more at ease with electronics, and if your country is a less developed one or one that is currently developing, they might find jobs like miners, farmers, etc. more attractive. This will greatly impact your countryhuman view on the world.

If your country is well developed, it might be interesting to think about why is that. What does it have to offer to other countries? Maybe your country made great discoveries in science, or maybe it has a lot of valuable resource for other countries. This can tell you more about your OC's occupation. If you want your country to be more developed, it's also interesting to think about its culture, and how accessible it is. It might be a country that has a lot of operas, or a lot of cinemas. This will tell you more about your countryhuman's interests.

On the other hand, if your country is less developed, you can ask yourself questions like: does it exchange with other countries? how do its inhabitants manage to live? Do they live in small tribes? In a big community maybe? What do the people of your country do mainly for a living? Do they farm, hunt, fish...? Those are all useful questions to ask.
Another big thing to ask yourself is "what do their culture look like". Maybe your people like to exchange around a fire, or maybe they have some sorts of rituals. Thinking about those will make the creation of your character so much easier.

Part 1.3: The politic

Now, the least fun part: politic! We'll make it quick, for your sake and mine.

Is your country's independence acknowledged by others? Is your country more on the left or right side of the political scale? Maybe it's in the middle too. If it's more on the left, does it still exchange with more capitalist countries? And if it's on the right, to what extent is it?
Are the inhabitants of your country proud to be a part of it? Maybe your country has some weird laws too...
You might also want to look at your country rapport to religion. Those can be useful pieces of information.

Part 1.4: The history

Last but not least, your country's history! Here, there's a lot to think about, so let's get started!

First, when did the people of your country start considering themselves as a nation? Depending on the time period, your country's history will be more or less agitated.

Let's start from Prehistory. If your country started back then, well, congrats! It's one of the very first nations ever! Maybe it disappeared during this time period, due to its people exploring other regions and being separated, or maybe it was invaded in the beginning of Antiquity! Depending on your country geography, one option might be more likely than the other. If your country has a lot of mountains, the people were likely to just go away, if it's easy of access, they are likely to be invaded. Your country might also have lived on without being invaded or dismantled at all!

Now, Antiquity! If your country is located in Europa, congrats! You just got invaded, and there's almost no way around it! Perhaps your country fought and now have a scar... If your country didn't get invaded, maybe it had an alliance with a stronger country! If it did, the other country probably died... Maybe this impacted your character psychologically! Think about all the trauma they could get, all the PTSD!

For the Middle Age now! Did religion impact your country or did it start to make scientific improvements? Was your country made during this time period? If yes, was it more in the beginning, the middle, the end? What were the big innovations of this period? Maybe your country was actually a native american nation and pretty much died, or maybe it was founded by fleeing people. The possibilities are endless, and while I'm giving some examples, these are just ideas, you'll get more inspiration if you look at the history of your OC's location/surroundings.

For the Modern Times... Ask yourself: what was happening in your country's region during this time? Maybe it was impacted by the French Revolution in a way, due to an alliance with France's nobility? A lot of things could have happened!

Lastly, baby countries of the Contemporary Era... Your country might even have appeared after the Great Wars! Or it might not... Then, how did the wars impact it? If it was founded after, what caused its foundation? Was it a revolution? A civil war? Political conflict?

Part 1.5: The culture

Whenever your country was made, there was a dominant religion in your country's region. This might be your country's dominant religion, or your country might have completely disagreed with the ideas of this religion and chose another one, or not any at all! Religious belief can strongly impact your character's ideals and how they view the world. It can be subtle, like if your country is mostly christian your character may wear a cross necklace, or it can be more obvious, like an hijabi. Some real life countries can be really "pushy" when it comes to their religion (like Vatican for instance), or the lack thereof (France being sometimes completely extremist when it comes to how they view laicity), so don't hesitate. You can do pretty much anything, even make your own religion if you want, as long as you're respectful to others' beliefs.

But culture goes way beyond religion. So do they have a specific day they celebrate? Why, and how? What about their national holiday? When is it, and why? Do your people have specific beliefs or rituals? We discussed this a little in the demographic part but this is important to keep in mind, as this will help in two chapters. You don't have to be super specific, just have a general view of their culture will help, and maybe even give your character a nice new touch (like if their culture have let's say 4 genders, they may not fit into the usual binary of most western countries).
