(Song is Runaway by Aurora. Great song, great artist. Also, if you recognize the song lyrics from the last part, how's therapy lol?)
Orihime pretended to sleep for about an hour before she was certain Ichigo was sleeping. Once his breathing hit its nighttime rhythm, she crept out of bed and got dressed in the clothes she'd hid while Ichigo was at the store.
When she got to the tree he wasn't there, so she sat down and waited. She sat under that tree for several hours, waiting patiently.
He arrived just when she had given up on him coming.
He looked different now, but she knew it was him. His eyes were still the perfect shade of green, framed by thick lashes. His skin was still pale as ever. That's where the differences started. Now, his hair hung down his back and was pure white. He no longer had his mask fragment, though that could be from a gigai. And his pupils were round rather than slits. But what mattered was he was here, and he was alive.
"Ulquiorra, oh my god, Ulquiorra!"
Orihime ran towards the Arrancar as he spread his arms wide for her, colliding into a hug while he picked her up and spun her around.
"It's good to see you too, Orihime," he said, pulling her close.
"But how? I watched you die. How are you alive?" she cried; the tears unable to stop themselves.
"I can't say right now, but you'll find out soon enough."
They talked for hours, filling each other in the years they'd spent apart. She told him about Kazui and Ichika, and how she kept telling him to just ask the redhead out already.
Ulquiorra listened intently to Orihime, watching her as she told him about the last seventeen years of her life. He kept his hand folded in his lap while she spoke, fidgeting with a small object.
"What's that?" Orihime asked, noticting.
"Oh, it's just the guard to my old sword," he said, holding it out to her.
The eye-shaped silver guard that once adorned Murciélago lay flat in his palms. The silver was completely unblemished and had a faint green glow to it.
"I'm sure you want to know how I'm here?" he said, pocketing the silver.
"Obviously," she scoffed.
"I'll tell you then, my dearest."
