The Rumor

It's been about ten years since I last spoke with him. Now that I've thought about it, we didn't really leave off in the right foot.
"Why  didn't you tell me sooner Kate.. "
My eyes were filled with tears.
"I couldn't, I knew you'd be upset about it."
His jaw clenched and then his face softened when he looked at me in the eyes now.
He pulled me in to a hug.
"Even if I had been mad, you're still my best friend, I would of still supported you no matter who you dated, I just.. didn't expect it to be him."
I looked up to his eyes and just stared in to for a minute. We were in this hold for what seemed forever until Jake showed up behind us and cleared his throat.
"What's going on here?"
I quickly pulled apart from him and looked at Jake.
"I was just saying goodbye, can you relax."
Jake didn't relax though he gave Chase a dirty look.
"What the fuck is your problem dude?!" Chase threw at him
"My problem is that you just can't accept the fact that she choose me over you, and all you do is hover all over her when I'm not around, I don't like that."
I looked between the two of them, knowing where this was headed, my heart started to skip beats.
"That's not even the situation here you idiot, she's my best-friend who needs my support, all you do is bring problems."
Jake clenched his wrist holding back from something he'd later regret.
I stood in the middle of them both, and looked between the both of them.
"Please stop this nonsense right now, both of you!"
Chase backed away of course and listened, Jake still stared at him.
"If he wants to talk more, let him talk. That way I can punch all the shit that's coming out his mouth."
Chase laughed,
"All the shits already coming out, just as you speak." He motion to his mouth.
"That's it, I've had enough of him Kate, let's go!" He grabbed my wrist and pulled me towards him. I halted back in shock.
"What are you doing Jake?"
Jake looked at me confused, "what do you mean, I'm getting us out of this house and back home with you."
I hesitated and looked between chase and Jake. Chase looked at me, something deep in his eyes I couldn't picture, sadness maybe, no.. it was more than that, I just couldn't describe it.
"It's either you stay here with him and forget about me and all this shit that just happened, or you come with me, your boyfriend, who's treated you well for a year now." Jake said in a annoyed toned.
Chase's eyes opened wide.
He put up a finger as if to stop everything,
"Wait a minute,... for a year now?" I looked down ashamed.
Jake nodded,
"You're one fake friend Jake, I mean really all this time behind my back.?" Chase said looking at him deep in the eyes.
"And you, I thought you'd be better then this, I thought our friendship meant more then this, but if you choose a guy over our friendship then there's not much to it, now is there?" Chase said putting two hands in his pockets.
That was the last thing he said before walking off.
I had the urge to run to him and hug him and to tell him that he was wrong and that I still needed him in my life, but it was too late, he had left.
"Come on let's go, if he was a real friend like he claimed, he wouldn't of stormed off and left you hanging, a real friend is supportive of the other and wishes them nothing but the best... and that, that is not chase at all."

********* ******************

The sound of my phone ringing woke me up, I groaned as I tried to get out of bed.
Squinting my eyes I looked at who was calling,
"Gabby?"
I picked up abs soon as I spoke she started screaming
I quickly pulled e phone away from my fragile ears.
"Woah... why the screaming?"
"Because there's something you must know..."
"And that's what?"
"I just saw Chase... at a coffee shop."
My heart instantly stopped beating, it was as if time moved slow.
I took a deep breath and calmed down.
"Okay, and are you sure it was even chase, I mean since when did chase drink coffee?"
Gabby giggled,
"Oh trust me it was him, same brown locks, same cheeky smile with the dimples, the only difference is that there was a women with him, and he also wore a suite."
A women? And chase with a suite, in a coffee shop all the way in New York City?
Something wasn't adding up.
"Okay, we'll i guess it could be him, not that he'd want to talk to me anyways."
I could hear her sigh from the phone.
"Oh Kate, you need to get over the past, it's been years, I'm sure that's all forgotten ,besides, he's your best friend, he has to at least understand."
Part of me wished it were that easy, but I never understood the situation much myself, he had left me without even a goodbye, no explanation, nothing. How was I suppose to think that even after all these years, things would probably be different.
I completely forgot that Gabby was on the phone with me until I heard her say she'd be coming in ten minutes.

She wasn't lying when she said she'd be here in ten minutes, because she had actually arrived at the exact time she said she would.
"Hurry up, get dressed, we are going out to a club tonight."
I opened my eyes wide as I looked out the window of my apartment.
"Okay, give me like 6 minutes."
She nodded and waited in her car.
I quickly threw on a pair of tight, high waisted jeans,  also wore a nice revealing bodysuit that was black and matched it with a pair of black heels. I grabbed my Louie bag and fixed my long, black hair on my way out. I looked myself head to toe and smiled, for once in my life I've felt I looked great.
Gabby mouth dropped as she saw me walked out.
"You got ready to look that good in six minutes?!" I laughed and nodded
"You must teach me your ways girl." She said
"Simple, just don't waste time putting makeup on." I added and  she laughed.
"Are you seriously  kidding me right now, I can never do that, you got lucky though with genetics." She said and we laughed and drove off.
