In Her Shadow

Chapter One

HANNAHS POV
My first day of junior year. I'm really excited, this summer i started dating this guy Ryder and he's really nice, he even gets along really well with Emmy! It's amazing, I got dressed and ready for school and went downstairs and grabbed some breakfast and headed out the door, got in my car and drove to school. When i got to school i went in and saw a big group of kids surrounding someone and i got curious so i of course pushed my way through, and now i really wish i didnt. What i saw shocked me. Ryder and Emmy kissing. I knew it. I knew it would happen but i had really hoped it wouldn't. I felt a lump in my throat but I choked it back down and stood there and watched like everyone else. After a couple seconds I couldn't take it anymore and i tapped Ryder on the shoulder. "Really" is all i could say to him "Hannah I'm sorry please let me explain" he begged "There's nothing to explain, i watched you make out with her! We're over!" And after that the bell rang and everyone ran off to class, everyone except me. I stood there at my locker with my head in my hands "how could i be so stupid" I thought, my thoughts were interrupted by a deep voice asking "hey do you know where room 126 is?" I looked up, and I saw a beautiful boy with brown hair that was kind of long and hung in front of his eyes, he was also pretty built too, he must be new I'd never seen him before "um hello?" He said which snapped me out of my trance "Oh uh yes follow me i have to go there too" i grabbed my stuff and we started to walk to class. "So.." he said "I saw what happened back there I'm sorry" my heart dropped at the memory "oh don't be, that's normal for me" i chuckled "well it shouldn't be, I'm Jacob by the way" he said sticking his hand out for me to shake "Hannah" I replied accepting it "You seem nice, i personally don't see why he would cheat on you" he said shrugging his shoulders "Pfff i mean did you see Emmy? She's gorgeous I don't blame him" i said looking down "Hmm I don't see it, youre prettier and way nicer" I blushed, but i cant be falling for him, no no this is bad, we've learned not to trust love i also just met the guy. "Everything ok?" He asked "hm? Oh yeah everything's fine" i said with a fake smile and we walked into class.
"Hannah. You're late" the teacher said. The bell rang a second time? Hm guess i never noticed.
"Sorry sir that was my fault i had to go to my locker and didn't know where i was going" Jacob said
"And you are?" The teacher asked Jacob
"Jacob" he responded
"Alright Jacob, ill let this slide this time you two but next time i wont be as nice"
"thank you" jacob and i both said and sat down next to each other. I could feel Emmys eyes on me. Oh god.
*End of the day*
At the end of the day i started to grab my things and leave when Jacob stopped me "hey Hannah i was wondering if you maybe wanted to hang out?" I looked at him wondering why he'd already taken such an interest in me "sure why not" i agreed "Okay um ill pick you up at 7? Is that ok?" he said kind of nervous "sure, here's my number" i handed him my phone and i took his so we could swap numbers. "Alrighty see you tonight" he said waving and ran off. I giggled, he was pretty cute. I turned back around to leave but then I saw Emmy "ooo who was that smoke show?" She said pointing in jacobs direction "oh its the new kid Jacob" i smiled "cute, how long until hes mine" she said checking her nails "what?" I asked "well you know how i always get the men that are done with you, so how long?" "Probably not very" i said looking down "good" Emmy said with a smile and she walked off to go talk to jacob. Damn i really was stupid for thinking I could have someone all to myself... not that i should be thinking that way, jacob and I are friends, nothing more and we cant be, I cant do anymore hurt... maybe I shouldn't go tonight with him, maybe it was a stupid idea...
JACOBS POV
I can't believe i had the balls to ask her to hang out. i was so excited to hang out with her. She seems cool.
"Hey" some girl said as she came up to me twirling her hair with her fingers, i could already tell i probably wont like her
"Hi?" I responded as more of a question
"You new here?" She asked cocking her head to the side, still playing with her hair.
"Yep." I responded blandly. Damn i feel kind of mean, i barely know this girl
"Well I'm Emmy." she said sticking her hand out to shake, i accepted, maybe she wasn't so bad after all
"Nice to meet you Emmy I'm Jacob." I looked over to where Hannah was and she seemed upset, I don't know why though. I guess Emmy caught on to where i was looking because she responded
"That's Hannah"
"Oh i know, do you know her?" I asked a little excitement laced in my voice
"Oh yes she's my bestie :)" she responded smiling, maybe this was a good thing! This could give me more excuses to hang out with her by being friends with her friends
"Oh nice!" I responded with a smile as well
"I should warn you now that you shouldn't hang out with her" she said. What? Why?
"Why?" I asked hesitant
"Well- never mind i hear you two are hanging out later and i guess you can find out for yourself" she said shrugging her shoulders and walking off.
What could she mean by that?
