Chapter 1
Colbie's pov
" Ah, Miss Brooks. Finally decided to show up for class hmm?", my science teacher, Mrs Webbs, bitterly greeted. I looked around at all the faces that were all turned to me, waiting to see what I was going to say next. They were all making me nervous and I don't do well under pressure. "Whats your excuse this time dear? You've only had to think of atleast seven this weak, so I'm curious to know what you have thought of now.." she said smugly. I mentally cursed at my teacher. All my excuses were true though, but having an older sister who was known to be a trouble maker but still got straight A's, has suddenly made all the teachers think that I am one too.
"Well you see..um..." I looked around the class. All of seemed to be eagerly waiting for my excuse, some giggling already while others whispered and pointed at me. "I woke up late, due to my sister pulling one of her pranks on me again. This time, she decided it would be funny to change the time on my alarm clock, so instead of it saying 6, it said that it was 1. Because of that, I wasn't able to wake up in time and had to rush. So, when I finally got ready, I ask her to give me a ride but she said that she needed to head to work. I didn't bother arguing with her because I knew why she needs to work so I grabbed my skateboard, and I skated all the way here..." I rambled on, making everyone in the class go into a fit of laughters. They weren't even trying to keep quiet.
"Come here, Miss Brooks." she instructed. I walked slowly to her desk, with my head hung down, looking at my maroon coloured vans. When I finally reached her, I slowly looked up to her.
"After school, detention for a hour." she stated simply. My mouth dropped. I was never one to get a detention and besides, thats where you find all the trouble makers. I definately don't mix with that group. She handed me my slip; I could tell by the amusemant in her eyes that she was likely to be praising herself inside. "Run along now. I will have no more of this nonsense. You will make sure that you will be here ever day, on time....Unless that it, you want more detentions?' she smirked. I quickly nodded my head and walked past through the rows of desks to the only available seat in the class.
Just to make my day even better, it was infront of Alex Lawrence. Now at first, you may think that its a boy who I am talking about but no. She's a girl but its hard to tell since she looks like a guy. I've always tried to stay clear from her but unfortunately, I have half my classes with her.
Alex was famous for her laid back attitude, her one night stands and her good looks. She had these amazing, crystal blue eyes and had messy, caramel hair but thats not what made girls fall for her. No, it was her abs. She spends alot of her time in the soccer and track team which explains why she's in great shape.
I was one of the girls who haven't had a one night stand with her, nor do I plan to. I didn't tolerate with things like that. It would lead to to explaining yourself to your parents. Of course, I would never have the trouble explaining that to my dad since he died in a car crash three years ago. Now, I live with my sister, my younger brother and my mother.
"Earth to Colbie." someone spoke in my ear. I recognized that lazy voice, no matter how high my head was up in the clouds. I shivered slightly before turning around to look at her. Alex. "You know, you still need to hand me that paper on your desk. You might want to start focusing." she mumbled in my ear. She then a took a strand of my blonde hair, twirling it around with her fingers. I swatted her hand away, passing our science sheet to her. I bent down, so I could get my pencil case and books in my back pack. When I sat back up, I could feel warmth on my wrist. A warm hand was holding it, their thumb moving in a circular motion.
Argh...Alex was holding me! Did she think that I would fall for her that easily? I will not fall for her little game.
"Don't touch me," I spat out.
"Why not?" she asked, smirking. I bit my lip, trying to keep myself from making me look like a fool.
"B-Because," I stuttered out, biting my lip. "Because I have a personal bubble. If you violate that, then I will may you pay, so don't touch me. I have work to do so move your pretty little face away from my bubble and leave me alone." I instantly regretted the last part. I told her that she was "pretty" and you should never say something like that to her. Who knows what she'll do to me now. Probably put me on her death list. I cringed at the thought and looked back at Alex. She seemed to be very amused by my whole rambling scene or the fact that I'm arguing with myself. She leaned back lazily on her chair, smirking at me.
"Don't worry beautiful. Just because you talked back to me, doesn't mean you're on my death list. Besides, thats how a conversation works." she said, winking at me. Uh oh.
"I said that out loud, didn't I?" I asked myself, slouching down on my seat, looking down at the floor.
"That little bit where you thought I'd put you on my death list? Yeah, you did." she said, laughing quietly. I glared at her, feeling my heart beat increase and my cheeks becoming warm. I swiftly turned away from her, hiding behind my hair so she won't see my embarrassed expression.
Just when I thought she'd leave me alone, she tapped my shoulder.
"By the way, I don't have a death list." she whispered in my ear, her cool breathe making me shiver. A wave of relief washed over me, but then I realized what she did.
She. Fucking. Touched. Me. Again.
I shook my head, trying to concentrate in my work, but with Alex being behind me, it was hardwork just to do that. She was constantly tapping her foot on the back of my chair, trying to get my attention. Why is she doing this? She's never spoken a word to me, or decided to show any interest so why now? It made me uncomfortable to know that she touched me again, since I just had a breakup with my ex boyfriend a few weeks ago. I have been steering away from boys ever since; all boys apart from my best friend Liam. He's always been there for me.
My attention was focused on Alex again who now decided to play with my hair. Eventually, I snapped. I turned around in my seat, only hitting my knee during the process. Everyone turned to look at me while Alex just sat there laughing her head off.
That bitch.
"Is there something wrong back there Miss Brooks?" my science teacher asked.
"No, nothing at all." I mumbled out. I glanced at Alex once more before focusing on my work. She was smiling a genuine smile and I had never seen her smile like that to anyone. It was freaky.
