Journie Amethyst King's POV
My eyes slowly open as I feel my head spinning. I groan as I try to move but I couldn't. Everything hurts. Where am I?After a few seconds of lying down I managed to get enough strength to sit up on the bed. I take a look around to see where I was.
"Is this..my room?" I mumbled rubbing my eyes trying to get a better look.
It looked like my room but..different? It was like my room in the 20's or 30's.
Weird.
The jukebox on the nightstand all of a sudden opened causing me to jump. I tried to get off the bed but some kind of supernatural barrier stopped me from leaving just an inch of the bed.
"What the fuck?" I said touching the barrier. It was invisible but when I touched it ,it was like a small water wave that quickly went away.
I got as close as I could to the jukebox trying to observe it. It looked like it had a name on it. I squinted my eyes trying to see the name but it was hard . Know I'm blind as fuck.
"Avanette Hudson." Is the name I read carved into the jukebox.
I know you fuckin lyin-
"Finally you up." I heard from the door and that same tall black figure appeared.
"Who are you?" I asked him. By his voice I could tell he was a male.
"The boogie man." He said sarcastically.
You thought you ate?
"Why am I here?" I asked.
"You know yo ass ask a lot of questions for Selene to be yo ancestor." He said with his face becoming more visible so I could see his lips.
"Who the fuck is Selene?" I asked confused by what he was saying and he just looked at me with a smirk.
"Selene? The Goddess of the Moon?" I asked him. That's the only Selene I could think of.
"Smart." He said.
"Boy that's a Greek Goddess ain't they supposed to be white." I ask scrunching my face up.
"Where you hear that at?" He asked.
"In the books dummy." I said stale facing him and before he could say something back we were interrupted.
"What the fuck?!" I heard Ava say coming in the room.
"Did you bring her here?!" She asked yelling at him.
"Yeah, what's the problem?" He said.
"The problem is if The Elders find out she's here you could get her killed and us killed again!" She yelled.
"But I -"
"Shut up. I'll just have to fix your problems AGAIN." She said.
I guess I was leaning on the barrier because all of a sudden I fell off of the bed.
"Come with me." Ava said walking toward the door and I sticked my tongue out at him and quickly ran behind Ava.
"Who was that nigga?" I asked following Ava downstairs.
"That was my brother Eli." She said opening the front door.
I came out and stopped. Everything looked so ..old.Like I was in the past or something. The fresh Henry Ford Model T and houses told it all.
"Get in."she said and I did as told.
"Is this your world?" I ask her as she pulled out of the driveway.
"You can say that." She said.
"I knew you were old but I ain't know you was this old." I say and she chuckles.
"Yeah this world wasn't the dream world for us black people back then. This is me and my brother's afterlife alone with many others until we finish our unfinished business. You see why it's shallow? It's the land of the dead, something we call the 'Other Side'." She said as she parked on the side of the road.
"Why are we in the middle of nowhere?" I asked.
"Follow me." She said as she got out the car and headed towards the woods. We walked for a while past a bunch of trees until she scrolled upon a white portal.
"We don't have much time. You need to go through." She said.
"Where will it take me." I asked.
"Home." She said.
"What will happen to you?" I asked.
"I don't know. You don't bring the living to the land of the dead without consequence." She said and I nodded.
I walked through the portal and immediately fell on the floor. I looked up and I was in my closet. I quickly ran out and looked around. Phew I'm back in my room. I see my phone a quickly ran to it. I read the time "4:44".
Damn, I didn't even get no sleep yet.
