Jarpen Sien 1956 (June 27th 1956)Closing my eyes I take a deep breath. My violet eyes open and study the scene before me. A huge white stone castle, you can see slightly through the gates, and the view is breathtaking. Large gardens with many water fountains erupt from the ground. My mare 'Farlem' meaning fast one in Mer, moves impatiently beneath me.
Laughter bubbles inside of me, and I give her the go. Faithful to her name, we are soon at the towering castle walls.
Once I've made it past the guards I'm met by a woman. Her hair is black as night, her skin white as snow, her eyes green as emeralds. The typical appearance of a vampire. But I can tell by her radiance she's not a pure blood.
"Princess Cathryn," the woman sends a nod of respect my way. "I'm Elaine Cobant, A groom will see to your horse." Nerves flutter in my stomach. "Right this way m'lady," she adds after I have descended from my mare, before walking briskly towards the towering walls of the castle.
Elaine leads me through many familiar halls until we eventually reach the welcoming archway, leading to the throne room.
"Cathryn, my dear, how have you been? How's the world beneath the surface?" my mother, Queen Lucinda calls cheerfully as soon as I enter the room. My eyes flick painfully to the smaller chair where in which I once occupied. "I am well mother, I'm sorry to inform you that the world beneath the surface has hit rocky times, father is at the lead, again, I am grateful beyond words for your calling me to the surface once again." I say solemnly with a small nod of respect.
"Call in a young lord to lead my daughter to my sitting room, where she can wait for my being done with my palace duties," my mother calls to a page boy, who, with a small nod scurries off to find the 'young lord' she speaks of. Soon he returns with a young man trailing boredly behind him. The young lords dark hair and blue eyes make him seem more powerful and draw you in. "Siren" I thing to myself before turning back to my mother.
As soon as he sees my mother, he bows deeply. "Your Majesty."
"Ah, Ethan, would you be so kind as to escort my dear Cathryn to my personal sitting room," Queen Lucinda's voice flows with practiced authority and posture. With a nod, another bow and a, "yes your magesty," he looks around the room for me. His eyes settle on me and his eyes flicker with descust.Later as we make our way to the sitting room I feel the need to fill the awkward silence.
"Does my mother treat the human kingdom well?" I ask him making small talk.
He stops turns his head and spits "I have no idea why you called this realm a 'human kingdom'. Also if you're such a great Nobel being that my Queen will address you as 'my dear Cathryn' then you should know for for yourself."Anger licks at the edges of my heart, yet I calmly but coldly reply "Ethan," I say, his same rolling off my tounge like poison. "Aren't lords supposed to be gentlemanly. Especially to a princess, which last I knew I was." I pause to see if he answers. He doesn't so I continue. "This makes me of a higher ranking then you Lord Ethan. You are a simple siren boy, who calls himself a 'young lord'. Such a human title, you could do much better down below. You were called to escort me to my mother's sitting room, unless you're completely halbas, you should know that royal kin stay with their mothers for a long time. Therefore I know where my own mother's sitting room is. You seem much too young to remember when I once lived here, but this is indeed my old home."
"Cathryn." He coughs, "Princess Cathryn I'm sorry, please accept my apology." he says, as if reciting from a cliché movie script.
"Sorry for what? Treating me like sarpa? Aren't 'lords' supposed to have nice manners?" I reply simply.
He goes to say something but stops as if waiting for something. After a heartbeat he utters "I didn't know that you were the princess."
I raise one eyebrow. "That shouldn't change anything. You think I let people go at 'Sorry', well you thought wrong" I say, feeling my eyes start glowing and the wind gently swirl around us. "Remember your place Ethan." He looks down and I lift his chin with a slender fingure. My long pointy nail piercing his skin "Take this as a lesson young boy, be kind to all, yes it'll hurt more when they stab you in the back, but a good reputation gets you further." With a wink I mutter a teleportation spell and am gone within a second.
"That took longer then expected." My mother says humorously.
"I don't know how you put up with the Halbahsins, they are completely obnoxious, spitful and not to mention, uneducated about their own history!" My sharp words cut through the still silence."Calm down child, that's why I need you, to teach them." My mother's words curled enchantingly around me.
"Mother, are you sure this is the right time to show them?."
"I know what is right for my people! Don't you dare judge my authority.""Ah, mother." My words battle hers for dominance in the air around us. "There's something you must know, when you 'had to let me go for my own good' I learnt a few little tricks. You may be older, but I am wiser. Being stuck here surrounded by anything you could ever dream of," I let out a short laugh. "All it teaches you is to to think you have power and authority."
I feel something wake up inside me, and when I open my eyes I see a look of fear cross her face.
