The snow fell slowly, settling gently on the ground. I observed everything from my bedroom's window, I was used to that type of climate: the silent snow, that cold that had now entered my skin, the wind that scratched my face lol; this was my world, my home, the place where I was born. As I watched the snowflakes twirl pushed by the wind, creating a continuous swirl that had not ceased for days, I turned the wonderful ruby that Kal had given me in my fingers, the moment I admired the shining stone a tear began to slip me along the face. I missed every minute: his tender smile, his bright eyes, everything I missed about him.
I heard the door open and quickly wiped away my tears, putting on a smile that was truthful. I saw the ice-white hair woman appear who smiled at me sincerely with that sweet way of hers that contrasted her. She came up to me and hugged me, making me feel better immediately.
"Ecate, Ares and I are going to the lake, are you coming too?"
"I do not know..."
"Come on, it wouldn't be the same without you."
"Alright then!"
She jumped into my arms and squeezed even tighter than before if that's possible.
"So, do we want to go or do we want to stay here all day?"
"I was convincing your sister!"
Quickly Dafne flung herself into my brother's arms, intertwining her arms behind her neck and kissing him softly. They stared at each other for a long time, noting in my brother's silver rings a sincere love and genuine happiness that made me smile sweetly.
"Do we want to go or do you want to stay here all day?"
I asked sarcastically as my brother and Daphne flushed with embarrassment. On the way to the frozen mirror, Ares and Dafne stayed a few steps behind me, joking and laughing with each other, as if the whole world didn't matter. I slightly envied their carelessness, which they had deprived me of. Arriving at the lake, Ares melted the snow that had formed to make us settle in a corner next to the lying waters. I leaned back, watching them twirl lightly on the thin ice, dancing a tune of their own. I watched them raptly, seeing the electricity rise between them. As Ares hugged Dafne to her chest and kissed her, I heard a rustle coming from the woods that caught my attention. I got up leaving Ares and Dafne alone, approaching the place where I had heard that noise. I pushed aside a twig of a bush and found behind it a little girl with golden hair and languid blue eyes staring at me imploringly. I returned the trembling girl's gaze as I frowned in confusion. I heard a growl behind my back and whirled around to see a wolf baring its teeth, ready to attack the child. I placed myself in front of the little girl as if to shield her. The wolf jumped, opening its jaws, I closed my eyes and covered myself with my arms but the animal did not rush at me. When I opened my eyes I saw him in midair, supported by Dafne's golden magic. I took the girl in my arms and walked away, while Dafne put the wolf down and approached him. I began to reassure the little girl, who was crying in fear, wiping her tears and talking to her softly.
"What's your name?"
"Cassandra."
"How old are you?"
"Eight."
"How come such a little girl wanders around the forest alone?"
The little girl did not look at me, which she always pointed to the ground as her tears flowed slowly, tracing the contours of her pale face.
"She is not alone."
I turned to Dafne who in the meantime was lovingly caressing the wolf that had crouched at her feet.
